BACKGROUND We have reported that intermediate repeat lengths of the C9ORF72 repeat are a risk factor for Parkinson's disease (PD) in a clinically diagnosed data set. Because 10% to 25% of clinically diagnosed PD have different diagnoses upon autopsy, we hypothesized that this may reflect phenotypic heterogeneity or concomitant pathology of other neurodegenerative disorders. METHODS We screene...

This work aims to clarify the nano-structural transformation accompanying the loss of activity and selectivity for H2O2 synthesis of Pd and AuPd nanoparticles supported on N-functionalized carbon nanotubes (NCNTs). High resolution XPS allowed discriminating metallic Pd, electronically-modified metallic Pd hosting impurities and cationic Pd. This is paralleled by morphological heterogeneity obse...

We report an ultrasensitive DNA sensor using the rapid enhancement of electrocatalytic activity of DNA-conjugated Pd nanoparticles (NPs); the rapid enhancement results from the fast catalytic hydrolysis of NaBH(4) on Pd NPs and subsequent fast hydrogen sorption into Pd NPs.

A Pd/α-Al2O3 nanocatalyst with ultra-low Pd loading exhibits high activity and stability for CO oxidative coupling to dimethyl oxalate, which was prepared by a Cu(2+)-assisted in situ reduction method at room temperature. The small size and high dispersion of Pd nanoparticles facilitated by Cu(2+) ions are responsible for the excellent catalytic activity.

In this study, two kinds of cellulose derivatives (polyanionic cellulose (PAC) and hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose (HPMC)) were selected as stabilizers of Pd/Fe nanoparticles (NPs) to investigate their influences on the debromination performances of 2,2',4,4'-tretrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE47). Field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) images revealed that the cellulose-stabilized Pd/Fe...

Pd nanoparticles were successfully introduced into the channels of mesoporous silica MCM-41 with their dispersion well-tuned. We identified the dual role played by CTAB, which was critical for both the micelle template and Pd grafting, leading to the formation of a highly active Pd-MCM-41 nanocomposite for catalysing the Suzuki reaction.

Parahydrogen-induced polarization was observed in the gas phase heterogeneous hydrogenation of propyne catalyzed by Pd(0) nanoparticles embedded in an ionic liquid phase supported on activated carbon fibers (Pd(0)/SILP/ACF). The results were markedly different from those obtained with a reference catalyst, Pd(0)/ACF, demonstrating the important role of the ionic liquid.

We report thickness-dependent morphologies of a Pd film on n-layer graphenes. Via Raman spectroscopy-based technique, obvious charge transfer has been observed among Pd and graphenes, which is also dependent on the layer number. With the increase of the layer number, the Pd film becomes coarser, and the electron transfer becomes lower.

The bimetallic nanothermites, composed often of the core-shell nanoparticles or the nano-scale multilayers, provide a direct interface between two reactive metals and therefore facilitate the thermite reaction without generating excessive gases. This characteristic is extremely important for wire or material joining applications. In this study we investigated the energetic properties and diffus...
