Myasthenia gravis is a disorder of impaired neuromuscular transmission resulting in weakness and abnormal fatigability on exertion, improved by anti-acetyl cholinesterase drugs. A number of drugs are known to exacerbate myasthenia gravis or interfere with neuromuscular transmission. We report a case of D-penicillamine induced myasthenia gravis who developed ptosis, diplopia and easy fatigabilit...

Rheumatoid arthritis can be a very mutilating disease and, as a result, the likelihood of patients with rheumatoid arthritis requiring surgery and anaesthesia is increased. D-penicillamine (D-Pen) has been used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and Wilson's disease since the early 1960s. Its true mode of action is unknown, but it appears to modify the immune response. Treatment with D-Pe...

The neutral salt-soluble collagen which accumulates in the tissues of animals treated with penicillamine does not differ from normal in amino acid composition, specific optical rotation, and melting temperature. It has higher intrinsic viscosity, possibly due to a contamination with higher molecular weight aggregates originating from the depolymerization of insoluble collagen. In contrast to th...

Pemphigoid diseases are a group of blistering autoimmune pathologies including pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and foliaceous, which affect mucocutaneous tissues. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, penicillamine, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors such as captopril enalapril associated with drug-induced pemphigoid. We present case lisinopril-associated PV has not been previously reported.

The reactions of a pair of enantiomers of macrocyclic nickel(II) complexes with racemic penicillamine generated two 3D hydrogen-bonded homochiral frameworks of {[Ni(f-(SS)-L)](2)(l-pends)(ClO(4))(2)}(n) (Λ-1) and {[Ni(f-(RR)-L)](2)(d-pends) (ClO(4))(2)}(n) (Δ-1). The frameworks possess 1D tubular pores and opposite right/left-handed helical porous surfaces (L = 5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,1...
