Median raphe cysts (MRC) are uncommon, benign congenital lesions that may present anywhere in the midline between the urinary meatus and the anus, with the shaft of the penis and the glans penis being the most common sites. We report a 52-year-old man with median raphe cyst unusually located in perianal region and treated by surgical excision.
Anomalies of the penis occur with regularity and cause much anxiety for parents of affected children. If left untreated, these problems may not only result in long-term physical sequelae, but also in poor psychosocial adjustment. This article describes the more commonly seen anomalies of the penis and their evaluation and treatment. 2006 WPMH GmbH. Published by Elsevier Ireland Ltd.
Dorsal vein rupture of the penis is a rare condition, and few cases have been reported in the literature. Herein we report a 41-year-old man who presented with mildly painful and acute swollen penis, which initially imitated a penile fracture but was surgically explored and shown to be a superficial dorsal vein rupture.
Primary leiomyosarcoma of the penis is a very rare tumour. Only 46 cases have been reported in the English medical literature. We are presenting this case of a 59-year-old patient with a ulceroproliferative growth in his penis. Histopathology was a high grade spindle cell sarcoma, which was proved by immunohistochemistry to be a leiomyosarcoma.
Desmoplastic melanomas are rare amelanotic melanomas that usually occur on skin with sun exposure. In this report, we present a 72-year-old man who presented with a desmoplastic melanoma of the penis. To our knowledge this represents the first reported case of primary desmoplastic melanoma of the penis. We discuss the pathologic differential and histologic evaluation.
A case of granuloma annulare (GA) localised to the shaft of the penis is reported with a brief review of the current literature. We concluded that penile GA, although rare, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of granulomatous lesions of the penis and that histopathological examination of the lesion is essential for the diagnosis.
Losing the penis in species with internal fertilization may seem paradoxical, but birds have managed to do it multiple times. A new study addresses one developmental mechanism responsible for penis reduction in birds, and opens the door to further examination of this little understood evolutionary phenomenon.
