A novel method for excitation of RF B1 field in high-field (3-T) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems using a subject-loaded quadrifilar helical antenna as an RF coil is proposed, evaluated, and demonstrated. Design, analysis, characterization, and evaluation of the novel coil when situated in a 3-T MRI bore and loaded with different phantoms are performed and cross-validated by extensive n...

Backscatter and attenuation variations are essential contrast mechanisms in ultrasound B-mode imaging. Emerging quantitative ultrasound methods extract and display absolute values of these tissue properties. However, in clinical applications, backscatter and attenuation parameters sometimes are not easily measured because of tissues inhomogeneities above the region-of-interest (ROI). We describ...

This study develops and tests an MR thermometry method combined with SMASH navigators in phantom experiments mimicking human liver motion with the purpose of detecting and correcting motion artifacts in thermal MR images. Experimental data were acquired on a 3T MRI scanner. Motion artifacts of mobile phantoms mimicking human liver motion were detected and corrected using the SMASH navigators an...

This paper compares the accuracy of imaging and resolution obtained with 81Rb and 43K using coincidence and noncoincidence counting. Phantoms and isolated infarcted dog hearts were used. The results clearly show the superiority of coincidence counting with a resolution of 0.5 cm. Noncoincidence counting failed to reveal even sizable defects in the radioactive source.

PURPOSE We report what is to our knowledge the initial experience with a new 3-dimensional ultrasound robotic system for prostate brachytherapy assistance, focal therapy and prostate biopsies. Its ability to track prostate motion intraoperatively allows it to manage motions and guide needles to predefined targets. MATERIALS AND METHODS A robotic system was created for transrectal ultrasound g...

Objective: Radiosensitisation caused by titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2-NPs) is investigated using phantoms (PRESAGE® dosimeters) and in vitro using two types of cell lines, cultured human keratinocyte (HaCaT) and prostate cancer (DU145) cells. Methods: Anatase TiO2-NPs were synthesised, characterised and functionalised to allow dispersion in culture-medium for in vitro studies and halocar...

Abstract Based on the combined use of polymerisable polyacrylamide, collagen and an aqueous solution Flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), we have developed a new technique for fabrication composite phantoms mimicking fluorescence properties human skin. A comparative analysis absorption scattering coefficients, refractive indices, as well spectra with different concentrations FAD measured CCD spec...
