The interaction of a powerful laser beam with a target material may result in the formation of a plume, which consists of gas molecules and molecular clusters directly ejected from the surface. A hybrid Molecular Dynamics – direct simulation Monte Carlo scheme capable to model the formation and evolution of the multi-component plume has been proposed recently. In the present study, the first ob...

A comprehensive numerical study was undertaken to investigate transport of a variable-density, conservative solute plume in an unconfined coastal aquifer subject to high and low frequency oceanic forcing. The model combined variable-density saturated flow for groundwater and solute transport, and wave hydrodynamics from a 2D Navier-Stokes solver. A sinusoidal tidal signal was specified by imple...

An experimental observation of microcathode thruster plasma plume is described. An effect of the magnetic field on the plume expansion is considered. Two observation techniques are employed––charge-coupled-device camera and the concentric Langmuir probe. It is found that magnetic field significantly affects the plasma plume, and the strong magnetic field can lead to hollow plume formation.

Abstract. In this paper, we present a new version of PLUME-MoM, 1-D integral volcanic plume model based on the method moments for description polydispersity in solid particles. The describes steady-state dynamics 3-D coordinate system, and modification two-size moment (TSM) is adopted to describe changes grain size distribution along plume, associated with particle loss from margins aggregation...

The influence of the Columbia River plume on the distributions of nitrate and iron and their sources to coastal and shelf waters were examined. In contrast to other large estuaries, the Columbia River is a unique study area as it supplies very little nitrate (5 AM) and iron (14–30 nM) at salinities of 1–2 to coastal waters. Elevated nitrate and dissolved iron concentrations (as high as 20 AM an...

Almost half of the Greenland ice sheet's mass loss occurs through iceberg calving at marine terminating glaciers. The presence buoyant subglacial discharge plumes these termini are thought to increase both submarine melting and by undercutting that consequently increases rates. Plume models used predict undercutting. However, there few observations allow relationships be tested. Here, we use ai...

behaviour of the dilution characteristics of the coastal waters off tuticorin is presented in thebackground of setting up of a desalination plant. simulations of dispersion and spreading of the proposeddischarges has been carried out. scenarios of dilutions were assessed based on the results of a 2d model using the advection-dispersion theory. it is observed that under prevailing currents in th...

[1] After coastal upwelling, the water properties in the nearshore coastal region close to estuaries is determined by the race between the new estuarine plume traveling along the coast and the upwelled front (a marker for the old upwelled plume and the coastal pycnocline) returning to the coast under downwelling winds. Away from an estuary, downwelling winds can return the upwelled front to the...
