The single-wing extension of the bowl-shaped tribenzotriquinacene (TBTQ) framework with polycondensed aromatic hydrocarbon units has been reported. In the course of a Scholl reaction, one of the three-dimensional bays of the TBTQ core has been bridged by a PAH unit to generate a seven-membered ring within the merged TBTQ-(hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene) scaffold.

The effect of testosterone as the sole carbon source on protein expression was analyzed in Comamonas testosteroni. Testosterone simultaneously induced the expression of steroid- and aromatic hydrocarbon-catabolizing enzymes and repressed one amino acid-degrading enzyme. It is suggested that steroids play a regulative role in catabolic enzyme synthesis during adaptive growth of C. testosteroni.
Sphingobium yanoikuyae B1 can utilize biphenyl, naphthalene, phenanthrene, toluene, and m-/p-xylene as sole sources of carbon and energy. Here, we present a 5.2-Mb assembly of its genome. An analysis of the genome can provide insights into the mechanisms of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) degradation and potentially aid in bioremediation applications.
