Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells need initial conditioning, activation or break-in the first time they are operated after being assembled. During this period performance of the fuel cell improves until it reaches its nominal performance. The exact mechanism of this initial conditioning is not completely understood, but it is assumed that during the conditioning process the polymer membra...

Cellulose-graft-poly (L-lactide) (cellulose-g-PLLA) was prepared under homogeneous mild conditions. Ring-opening polymerization (ROP) was carried out successfully using 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) as an organic catalyst in an ionic liquid 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (AmimCl). The structure of the polymer was characterized by GPC, H NMR, C NMR, FT-IR, TGA, WAXD, and AFM. The results ...

The recent surge of interest in non-noble-metal porphyrin and phthalocyanine catalysts has been prompted by their potential to replace Pt as cathodic catalysts in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). However, to realize the apparent benefits of the metal–N-coordinated catalysts in high-power fuel cells, advances in catalyst design and synthesis are required to produce catalysts wit...

Nano-silica supported boron trifluoride (BF3.SiO2) is an efficient, reusable and eco-friendly catalyst for chemoselective thioacetalization of aldehydes and ketones. So, this catalyst was applied for transthioacetalization of acetals and acylals into their corresponding 1,3-dithiolanes or 1,3-dithianes  in good to excellent yields. The reactions were carried out at room temperature under solven...

Hierarchical nanostructured spherical carbon with hollow macroporous core in combination with mesoporous shell has been explored to support Pt cathode catalyst with high metal loading in proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). The hollow core-mesoporous shell carbon (HCMSC) has unique structural characteristics such as large specific surface area and mesoporous volume, ensuring uniform disp...

A novel triphenylphosphine-based porous polymer (TPDB) with a high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area was synthesized through Friedel-Crafts alkylation of triphenylphosphine and α-dibromo-p-xylene. Then, the functional hydroxyl groups were successfully grafted onto the polymer framework by post modification of TPDB with 3-bromo-1-propanol (BP) and triethanolamine (TEA). The resulting sam...

A novel method for synthesizing polymer nanopods from a linear polymer bearing pendant propargyl ether groups, using gold nanoparticles as both the template and the catalyst for the cross-linking reaction, is reported. The transformations involved in the cross-linking process are unprecedented on the surface of a gold particle. A tentative cross-linking mechanism is proposed.

A facile one-pot approach for preparing hierarchical nanowire-networks of hollow polymer@Pd nanospheres is reported. First, polymer@Pd hollow nanospheres were produced through metal-complexation-induced phase separation with functionalized graft copolymers and subsequent self-assembly of PdNPs. The nanospheres hierarchically assembled into the nanowire-network upon drying. The Pd nanowire-netwo...
