Computational analyses have begun to elucidate which components of somatosensory cortical population activity may encode basic stimulus features. Recent results from rat barrel cortex suggest that the essence of this code is not synergistic spike patterns, but rather the precise timing of single neuron's first post-stimulus spikes. This may form the basis for a fast, robust population code.

In order to study the relationships between grain yield and its components of Aegilops cylindrica, 48 accessions of this plant species was studied in an experimental augmented design based on randomized complete block designwith4 replications under normal and drought stress conditions in the Agricultural Research Station of Ilam University. The results of correlation analysis between the traits...

We examined how changes in intensity and interaural time difference (ITD) influenced the coding of low-frequency sounds in the inferior colliculus of male gerbils at both the single neuron and population levels. We found that changes in intensity along the positive slope of the rate-level function (RLF) evoked changes in spectrotemporal filtering that influenced the overall timing of spike even...

Neurons in the primary somatosensory cortex (S1) generate synchronised high-frequency (∼600 Hz) bursts in response to peripheral stimulation, and single-cell activity is locked to themacroscopic 600 Hz EEG wavelets. The mechanism of burst generation and synchronisation in S1 is not yet understood. Using a Poisson model with refractoriness that was fitted to to unit recordings from macaque monke...

gladiolus (gladiolus grandiflorus l.) is one of the most widely cultivated, economically important and common flowering plants worldwide including pakistan. however, its yield of flower is quite low when grown under agro-climatic conditions of multan. a field experiment was conducted at the experimental area, department of horticulture, bahauddin zakariya university, multan (pakistan), during 2...

Half diallel crosses of eight bread wheat cultivars were used to estimate the genetic parameters and types of genetic control for yield and yield components, and to determine the effects of environmental factors on these parameters. Parents and their F2 hybrids were grown in a randomized block design under irrigated and stressed (terminal drought) conditions. For all traits, except for number o...

Primary neuronal cultures share many typical features with the in vivo situation, including similarities in distinct electrical activity patterns and synaptic network interactions. Here, we use multi-electrode array (MEA) recordings from spontaneously active cultures of wildtype and glutamic acid decarboxylase 67 (GAD67)-green fluorescent protein (GFP) transgenic mice to evaluate which spike pa...

The REML/BLUP statistics are analyses that can be used as selective criteria in the routine of maize breeding programs. The present study aims to determine the genetic potential in crosses of landrace populations applying the REML/BLUP methodology, and to identify populations for the synthesis of new populations and intrapopulation selection for family farming systems, as well as genetic consti...

An experiment comprising of 24 wheat genotypes was undertaken during 2011-12, at New Developmental Research Farm, The University of Agriculture Peshawar, to elucidate information on the nature and magnitude of genetic variability, index of transmissibility and assessing the level of genetic improvement of the quantitative characters. The experimental material comprising 19 F3 populations along ...

The purpose of the study was to quantify the effect of motor-unit synchronization on the spike-triggered average forces of a population of motor units. Muscle force was simulated by defining mechanical and activation characteristics of the motor units, specifying motor neuron discharge times, and imposing various levels of motor-unit synchronization. The model comprised 120 motor units. Simulat...
