Systemic arterial supply from the descending thoracic aorta to the basal segment of the left lower lobe without a pulmonary artery supply is a rare congenital anomaly within the spectrum of pulmonary sequestration cases. We encountered four consecutive cases, which were treated successfully by three basalectomies and one lower lobectomy to preserve lung function.
The global warming due to increased greenhouse gas concentrations, especially carbon dioxide has led to severe climate change over the past decade. This has aggravated the destruction of natural resources, soil and water, especially in arid and semi-arid regions. One of the most important tools for adaptation or correction of the consequences of this crisis is the carbon sequestration using nat...
A child with coexisting mediastinal bronchogenic cyst and extralobar pulmonary sequestration is presented. Two distinct lesions were suggested by barium esophagram and confirmed by a chest computed tomography scan. The diagnostic and embryologic relationship of the two lesions is discussed.
Chest pain is a common presenting symptom in the emergency department. After ruling out emergent causes, emergency physicians need to identify and manage less commonly encountered conditions. Pulmonary sequestration (PS) is a rare congenital condition involving pulmonary parenchyma. In PS, a portion of non-functional lung tissue receives systemic blood supply from an anomalous artery. While mos...

BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/ bcr-2015-212384 SUMMARY An obese 22-year-old man with a history of recurrent respiratory infections presented to the emergency room with left pleuritic chest pain, productive cough with mucupurulent sputum and an axillary temperature of 37.7°C. Blood work showed eleva...
There was no history of a foreign body in the nose at any time before. Anterior rhinoscopy showed a rough dark stony mass covered with greenish discharge. Probing gave a metallic sound. Postnasal examination showed a greenish discharge. A clinical diagnosis of a rhinolith was made. Radiology showed the rhinolith's position (Fig. 1) in the floor of the right nostril with mucosal thickening of th...
The liver is highly susceptible to a number of pathological insults, including ischemia/reperfusion injury. One of the striking consequences of liver injury is the associated pulmonary dysfunction that may be related to the release of hepatic-derived cytokines. We have previously employed an animal model of hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury, and demonstrated that this injury causes the produc...
Normal pulmonary trunk (22 mm). Dilated left pulmonary artery (27 mm) with increased pulmonary artery-to-bronchus ratio, which may indicate either redirection of the flow or increased pulmonary pressure. Right pulmonary artery was tortuous and hypoplastic, measuring 10 mm in its proximal portion and 9mm in its medial third (Figure 1D). Enlarged branch (13 x 13 mm) from the abdominal aorta at th...
OBJECTIVE To describe an unusual clinical presentation of intra-abdominal extralobar pulmonary sequestration in a 2-year, 9 month-old patient and assess diagnostic and treatment aspects of this pathology. CASE DESCRIPTION An undefined intra-abdominal mass was identified in the right adrenal region in a male fetus. Postnatal evaluation with ultrasound images, computed tomography, magnetic reso...
