When a broadband signal propagates through dispersive medium, some frequency components move faster than the center of pulse. This leads to appearance precursors, transient signals that emerge from medium earlier main part pulse and seem propagate superluminally. Here, we investigate microscopic origin precursors in minimal setup: an array qubits coupled waveguide. The linear transmission funct...

Precision study of few-electron, high-$Z$ ions is a privileged field for probing high-field, bound-state quantum electrodynamics (BSQED). However, the accuracy such tests plagued by nuclear uncertainties, which are often larger than BSQED effects under investigation. We propose an alternative method with exotic atoms and show that transitions may be found between circular Rydberg states where c...

Conditional measurements on the undriven mode of a two-mode cavity QED system prepare a coherent superposition of ground states which generate quantum beats. The continuous system drive induces decoherence through the phase interruptions from Rayleigh scattering, which manifests as a decrease of the beat amplitude and an increase of the frequency of oscillation. We report recent experiments tha...

I nteractions mediated by photons are ubiquitous in physical systems. For instance, the van der Waals interaction between atoms in free space—variants of which play a fundamental role in many physical, chemical, and biological processes—is mediated by photons of the electromagnetic vacuum between the atoms. Interestingly, while this interaction is weak and decays with interatomic separation whe...

We investigate the possibility of achieving the strong coupling regime of cavity quantum electrodynamics using rare-earth-metal-ions as impurities in monolithic optical resonators. We conclude that due to the weak oscillator strengths of the rare-earth-metals, it may be possible but difficult to reach the regime where the single photon Rabi frequency is large compared to both the cavity and ato...

In two companion papers it was shown how to separate out from a scattering function in quantum electrodynamics a distinguished part that meets the correspondence-principle and pole-factorization requirements. The integrals that define the terms of the remainder are here shown to have singularities on the pertinent Landau singularity surface that are weaker than those of the distinguished part. ...

We propose a method to implement cavity QED and quantum-information processing in high-Q cavities with a single trapped but nonlocalized atom. The system is beyond the Lamb-Dicke limit due to the atomic thermal motion. Our method is based on adiabatic passages, which make the relevant dynamics insensitive to the randomness of the atom position with an appropriate interaction configuration. The ...

We have calculated the energy levels of the hydrogen atom as well as the Lamb shift within the noncommutative quantum electrodynamics theory. The results show deviations from the usual QED both on the classical and the quantum levels. On both levels, the deviations depend on the parameter of space/space noncommutativity.
