Rhodococcus sp. B7740 was isolated from Arctic seawater and selected for its capacity to synthesize carotenoids. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of Rhodococcus sp. B7740 to provide the genetic basis for a better understanding of its carotenoid-accumulating capabilities, and we describe the major features of the genome.

The genus Rhodococcus exhibits a broad catabolic diversity that is often related to unusual genome diversity. A modified HiCEP method was applied for the identification of strain-specific genes by comparing two different strains. Rhodococcus erythropolis JCM3201 and NI86/21 were compared and 11 genes were identified as NI86/21-specific genes.

A case of an HIV infected patient complicated with Penicillium marneffei and Rhodococcus equi infection is reported. He presented with chronic ulcer as pyoderma gangrenosum-like on his right calf and submandibular lymphadenitis as scrofuloderma-like.
