We study the asymptotic behavior of a new particle filter approach for estimation of hidden Markov models (HMMs). In particular, we develop an algorithm where the latent-state sequence is segmented into multiple shorter portions, with an estimation technique based upon a separate particle filter in each portion. The partitioning facilitates the use of parallel processing, which reduces the wall...
The single-particle aspects of nuclear fission theories are investigated. The liquid drop model is shown to be essentially equivalent to an independent particle model with the requirement that particles occupy the lowest orbits. The consequences of relaxing this requirement are pursued and are shown to be significant. A natural framework is provided in which the mass asymmetry of fission arises...
An Aerosol Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometer (ATOFMS) was deployed to investigate the size-resolved chemical composition of single particles at an urban background site in Paris, France, as part of the MEGAPOLI winter campaign in January/February 2010. ATOFMS particle counts were scaled to match coincident Twin Differential Mobility Particle Sizer (TDMPS) data in order to generate hourly size-re...
The computed α particle momentum distributions from the decay of low-lying C resonances are shown. The wave function of the decaying fragments is computed by means of the complex scaled hyperspherical adiabatic expansion method. The large-distance part of the wave functions is crucial and has to be accurately calculated. We discuss energy distributions, angular distributions and Dalitz plots fo...
The experimental results on the falling down of scaled factorial moments in azimuthal variable φ is studied in some detail. It is shown that this phenomenon may be referred to the influence of transverse momentum conservation. The existing experimental data from DELPHI, EMU08, NA22 and UA1 are successfully explained. Various methods are proposed to partly eliminate this influence and rule out t...
Together with my partner, Pablo Solis, we demonstrate the particle-like nature of light as characterized by photons with quantized and distinct energies each dependent only on its frequency (ν) and scaled by Planck’s constant (h). Using data obtained through the bombardment of an alkali metal surface (in our case, potassium) by light of varying frequencies, we calculate Planck’s constant, h to ...
Observations made using the Wind spacecraft of Hall magnetic fields in solar wind reconnection exhausts are presented. These observations are consistent with the generation of Hall fields by a narrow ion inertial scale current layer near the separatrix, which is confirmed with an appropriately scaled particle-in-cell simulation that shows excellent agreement with observations. The Hall fields a...
Hot electron temperatures and electron energy spectra in the course of interaction between intense laser pulse and overdense plasmas are reexamined from a viewpoint of the difference in laser wavelength. The hot electron temperature measured by a particle-in-cell simulation is scaled by I rather than Iλ at the interaction with overdense plasmas with fixed ions, where I and λ are the laser inten...
We study a theory of particles interacting with strings. Considering such a theory for Type IIA superstring will give some clue about M-theory. As a first step toward such a theory, we construct the particle-particle-string interaction vertex generalizing the D-particle boundary state. A talk given at Kashikojima Workshop, August 19September 1, 1996.
