With short-term interest rates at the zero lower bound, forward guidance has become a key tool for central bankers, and yet we know little about its effectiveness. This paper first empirically documents the impact of forward guidance announcements on a broad cross section of financial markets data and professional forecasts. We find that FOMC announcements containing forward guidance had hetero...

We study ππ scattering in the I = 1, JP = 1 channel at finite temperature in the framework of the extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model that explicitly includes vector and axial-vector degrees of freedom in addition to the usual scalar and pseudoscalar sector. The S-matrix in the coupled channels qq̄ and ππ is constructed via ρ-exchange in the s-channel. The self-energy of the ρ-meson contains both ...

A hybrid molecular dynamics model has been applied for modeling impacts of Ar and decaborane clusters, with energies ranging from 25 to 1500 eV/atom, impacting Si surfaces. Crater formation, sputtering, and the shapes of craters and rims were studied. Our simulation predicts that on a Si(1 0 0), craters are nearly triangular in cross-section, with the facets directed along the close-packed (1 1...

Let F0 = Q(√ −d) be an imaginary quadratic field with 3 ∤ d and let K0 = Q(√ 3d). Let ε0 be the fundamental unit of K0 and let λ be the Iwasawa λ-invariant for the cyclotomic Z3-extension of F0. The theory of 3-adic L-functions gives conditions for λ ≥ 2 in terms of ǫ0 and the class numbers of F0 and K0. We construct units of K1, the first level of the Z3-extension of K0, that potentially occur...

A new method to construct aggregation functions is introduced. These aggregation functions are called biconic aggregation functions with a given diagonal (resp. opposite diagonal) section and their construction method is based on linear interpolation on segments connecting the diagonal (resp. opposite diagonal) of the unit square and the points (0, 1) and (1, 0) (resp. (0, 0) and (1, 1)). Speci...

convexity results for nonlinear mappings we refer to 10 , for some applications to optimization and optimal control to 10, 11 . For an analysis of reachable sets of dynamical systems in an abstract or hybrid setting, see also 8 . While the main topic of our paper is the estimation of reachable sets for closed-loop systems of type 1.1 , we also consider open-loop control systems: ẋ t g x t , u t...

We calculate the pp → t ¯ tγ + X → W γ + X cross section at SSC energies. Approximately 40% of the total cross section originates from photon bremsstrahlung off the final state jet in t ¯ tj production. Without cuts restricting the hadronic activity, the t ¯ tγ rate is a factor 10 (2) larger than the tree level W γ cross section for a top quark mass of 110 GeV (200 GeV). Imposing a jet veto cut...

The 14N(p,γ )15O low-energy S-factor is analyzed using the R-matrix model. We find that the g.s. contribution is less than previously reported. The S-factor is mainly given by the 6.79 MeV state contribution which is determined by its asymptotic normalization constant (ANC). Consequently, the S-factor at zero energy is lower by a factor of 1.7 compared to the values given in recent compilations...
