Voltage response of a designed and constructed pyroelectric PVDF detector to pulse radiation was experimentally investigated. The detector performance has been tested and its time parameters, response linearity as a function of energy and width of optical pulses, frequency response and temperature characteristics were determined.

The importance of biomechanics in glucose sensor function has been largely overlooked. This article is the first part of a two-part review in which we look beyond commonly recognized chemical biocompatibility to explore the biomechanics of the sensor-tissue interface as an important aspect of continuous glucose sensor biocompatibility. Part I provides a theoretical framework to describe how bio...

A fl uorescence sensor array is being developed to detect explosives at ambient temperature and atmospheric conditions. The sensor platform uses a multilayer substrate that serves to amplify the emission signal by more than three orders of magnitude, improving the sensor response accordingly. Studies to understand the mechanism of the signal amplifi cation are being undertaken so that the senso...

The detection of partial discharge and analysis of SF6 gas components in gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) is important for the diagnosis and operating state assessment of power equipment. The use of a Pt-doped TiO2 nanotube arrays sensor for detecting sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) decomposition products is proposed in this paper. The electrochemical pulse deposition method is employed to prepare the ...

A robotic tactile sensor comprised of 25 discrete sensor electrodes arranged in a 5x5 grid was designed and fabricated from a piezoelectric polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film coupled to an integrated circuit (IC). Each of the 25 sensing electrodes in the IC grid were connected to metal-oxidesemiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) amplifiers which provided sufficient gain to generate usa...

A fuel-cell-type gas sensor based on the membrane electrode assemble (MEA) composed of proton exchange membrane (Nafion) and Pt/C sensing electrodes was fabricated for detection of CO at room temperature. The Pt/C electrodes materials were synthesized from Vulcan XC-72 carbon powders and hexachloroplatinic acid (H2PtCl6). This paper mainly focused on the effect of various dispersants (ethylene ...

In the present contribution, three methods for the preparation of nanoscaledSrTi1-xFexO3-δ sensor films for hydrocarbon sensing were investigated. Besides screen-printed thick films based on sol-precipitated nanopowders, two novel synthesis methods, electrospinning and electrospraying, were tested successfully. All of these sensor devicesshowed improved sensor functionality in comparison to conv...

UV sensors are typically very sensitive to aging and solarization effects of the harsh environment in which they are used. Minimizing the long term effects of UV on a sensor/optics is extremely challenging, especially with on-line installed sensors used for continuous monitoring on a 24/7 basis. This paper describes a patented method of reducing the effects of aging and solarization to a minima...

This paper reports our findings on how to prepare a graphene oxide-based gas sensor for sensing fast pulses of volatile organic compounds with a better signal-to-noise ratio. We use rapid acetone pulses of varying concentrations to test the sensors. First, we compare the effect of graphene oxide deposition method (dielectrophoresis versus solvent evaporation) on the sensor's response. We find t...

Wireless sensor networks are often located in areas where access to them is difficult or dangerous. Today, in wireless sensor networks, cluster-based routing protocols by dividing sensor nodes into distinct clusters and selecting local head-clusters to combine and send information of each cluster to the base station and balanced energy consumption by network nodes, get the best performance ...
