In this paper a Markov chain for contingency tables with two rows is deened. The chain is shown to be rapidly mixing using the path coupling method. The mixing time of the chain is quadratic in the number of columns and linear in the logarithm of the table sum. Two extensions of the new chain are discussed: one for three-rowed contingency tables and one for m-rowed contingency tables. We show t...

In this paper, an optimal power flow based approach has been applied for multi-transactions deregulated environment for ATC determination with SVC and STATCOM. The main contribution of the paper is (i) OPF based approach for evaluation of ATC with multi-transactions, (ii) ATC enhancement with FACTS devices viz. SVC and STATCOM for intact and line contingency cases, (iii) Impact of ZIP load on A...

There are many psychological tasks that involve the pairing of binary variables. The various tasks used often address different questions and are motivated by different theoretical issues and traditions. Upon closer examination, however, the tasks are remarkably similar in structure. In the present paper, we examine two such tasks, the contingency judgment task and the signal detection task, an...

We provide an elementary proof of a formula for the number of possible 2× c contingency tables with given row and column sums. Further, we show that the number of r×c contingency tables with given row sums is maximal as a function of column sums when column sums are as equal as possible. If only the sum of all table entries is given, the number of tables is maximal when also row sums are as equ...

In an experimental study of weight reduction, 62 obese men and women were administered a pretreatment questionnaire and randomly assigned to three experimental treatment groups: (a) an external control group with a nonrefundable contingency; (6) a self-control group with a refundable contingency; and (c) a self-control group with a nonrefundable contingency. The results indicated that the self-...

Single-cue delay eyeblink conditioning is presented as a prototypical example of automatic, nonsymbolic learning that is carried out by subcortical circuits. However, it has been difficult to assess the role of cognition in single-cue conditioning because participants become aware of the simple stimulus contingency so quickly. In this experiment (n = 166), we masked the contingency to reduce aw...

We deal with contingency table data that are used to examine the relationships between a set of categorical variables or factors. We assume that such relationships can be adequately described by the conditional independent structure imposed by an undirected graphical model. If the contingency table is large, a desirable simplified interpretation can be achieved by combining some categories, or ...

The influence of a secondary task on forward blocking of human contingency ratings was examined. A smaller blocking effect was found when participants performed a highly demanding secondary task than when they performed a less demanding secondary task. The modulatory effect of secondary task difficulty was significant only when the secondary task was administered during both the learning and th...

We present a comprehensive study of graphical log-linear models for contingency tables. High dimensional contingency tables arise in many areas such as computational biology, collection of survey and census data and others. Analysis of contingency tables involving several factors or categorical variables is very hard. To determine interactions among various factors, graphical and decomposable l...

The present study evaluated the effects of a lag differential reinforcement contingency on 2 students' activity selections using reversal designs. Results showed that the lag contingency was responsible for promoting increased novel selections, engagement in diverse activities, and greater progress with respect to programmed academic activities.
