Investigations at this and other stations have shown generally that nitrogenous fertilizers exert considerable influence in increasing the yields of grapefruit and other citrus fruits. The factors affecting quality of grapefruit and the relation of nitrogen nutrition to quality have not yet been fully studied with the result that orchard management practices, particularly in Arizona, cannot be ...

Levels of contaminants in fish are of particular interest because of the potential risk to humans consuming them. This paper examines the levels of cadmium, lead, zinc and copper in liver and muscle tissue of Esox lucius and in sediments from the Anzali international wetland in Iran. The wetland is a nursery and feeding habitat for fish species both from the lagoon and the Caspian Sea, which ar...

Canning of sausage is one of the methods to extend the shelf life of sausage with lower percentage of additives such as nitrite. This method reduces transport and storgae costs, too. The present stduy was carried out in two stages. The first stage consists of preparing sausages with four different formulations in Isfahan Senobar Factory and producing canned sausage. BACKGROUND Reports of clinical rickets are particularly evident in minority infants and children, but only limited analyses of vitamin D are available in this demographic group. OBJECTIVE We sought to characterize circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D [1,25(OH)(2)D], and their determinants, including circulating parathyroid hormone (PTH), total alkaline phosphatas...

The study of the fundamental events underlying the generation and regulation of force in smooth muscle would be greatly facilitated if the permeability of the cell membrane were increased so that the intracellular environment of the contractile apparatus could be manipulated experimentally. To initiate such an analysis, we developed a saponin permeabilization procedure that was used to "skin" i...

In this paper we present a new workflow allowing the creation of 3D characters in an automated way that does not require the expertise of an animator. This workflow is based of the acquisition of real human data captured by 3D body scanners, which is them processed to generate firstly animatable body meshes, secondly skinned body meshes and finally textured 3D garments.

We considered the possible relationship between the serum levels of progesterone and estradiol-17 beta, which were controlled to that of several stages in normal pregnant rats, and the Ca2+ sensitivity, defined as the pCa required for half maximum activation of force production, of chemically skinned uterine muscle fibers from ovariectomized rats. The Ca2+ sensitivity was negligibly influenced ...

Sociality and cooperation are benefits to human cultures but may carry unexpected costs. We suggest that both the human experience of pain and the expression of distress may result from many causes not experienced as painful in our close primate relatives, because human ancestors motivated to ask for help survived in greater numbers than either the thick-skinned or the stoic.
