The performance degradation of speech communication systems in noisy environments inspired increasing research on speech enhancement and noise reduction. As a well-known single-channel noise reduction technique, spectral subtraction (SS) has widely been used for speech enhancement. However, the spectral order β set in SS is always fixed to some constants, resulting in performance limitation to ...
Speech is the most adaptive communication adaptive by human as well as computer for interaction. The speech can be captured online or from distance input source devices. But these devices have the limitation to include some kind of impurities in the signal. One such problem commonly found in such speech signal is Acoustic feedback problem. It is considered as the sharp background instrumentatio...
Our aim in this paper is to introduce the notion of fuzzy soft near-subtraction semigroups and fuzzy soft ideals of near-subtraction semigroups. We discuss some important properties of these new fuzzy algebraic structure and investigate some examples and counter examples.
It is commonly acknowledged that the presence of additive and convolutional noise and speech level variations can seriously deteriorate the performance of a speech recognizer. In case an auditory model is used as the acoustic front-end, it turns out that compensation techniques such as spectral subtraction and log-spectral mean subtraction can be outperformed by time-domain techniques operating...
Although the electrolarynx (EL) provides an important means of voice reconstruction for patients who lose their vocal cords by laryngectomies, the radiated noise and additive environment noise reduce the intelligibility of the resulting EL speech. This paper proposes an improved spectrum subtract algorithm by taking into account the nonuniform effect of colored noise on the spectrum of EL speec...
Speech signals recorded with a distant microphone usually contain reverberation, which degrades the fidelity and intelligibility of speech in devices such as ’hands–free’ conference telephones, automatic speech recognition and hearing aids. One important effect of reverberation on speech is overlap–masking, i.e. the energy of the previous phonemes is smeared over time, and overlaps following ph...
Aim of speech enhancement is to improve the intelligibility and quality of the speech. By recording the speech signal in the noisy environment, clean speech signals are degraded. Speech enhancement reduces the noise without distorting the original (clean) signal. In this concept, Multi-Band Spectral Subtraction (MBSS) method is used to enhance the noisy speech signal. This approach, takes into ...
In this correspondence, we investigate whether musical noise, which often exists in speech enhanced using spectral subtraction, can be suppressed. Via exploiting some specific characteristics of human speech, we propose a method that can effectively suppress musical noise without noticeable effect on speech intelligibility. Performance assessments confirm that our method is effective.

A new method is evaluated for separating stimulus-locked and unlocked components of auditory event-related EEG activity. The new method uses a regression based subtraction procedure as a way to account for latency and amplitude variability within individual trials. It was applied using the oddball paradigm under conditions of active and passive listening and analyzed as spectral correlations (n...
