The equilibrium behavior of ellipsoidal Janus nanoparticles adsorbed at spherical oil/water interfaces was investigated using dissipative particle dynamics simulations. Several phenomena were documented that were not observed on similar simulations for planar oil/water interfaces. The nanoparticles were found to yield isotropic, radial nematic phases, and axial nematic domains, depending on the...
The effect of hydrotropes on the geometry of reverse water-in-oil AOT-microemulsions is investigated as a function of water content, and hydrotrope additive architecture. SANS reveals that hydrotropes induce cylindrical morphologies which transition to ellipsoidal and then spherical geometries with increasing water content (w). The length of the elongated particles appeared to show some depende...
Modern electrochemical devices require the morphological control of the active material. In this paper the synthesis of nickel hydroxide, as common active compound of such devices, is presented. The influence of ultrasound in the synthesis of nickel hydroxide from aqueous ammonia complexes is studied showing that ultrasound allows the fabrication of flower-like particles with sizes ranging in b...
We simulate the inversion process of a spherical micelle composed of symmetric diblock copolymers by means of dissipative particle dynamics. The evolution of micelle morphology reveals that the inversion is a two-staged process, in which a rapid agglomeration of outer lyophobic blocks occurs first, followed by a slow penetration of inner lyophilic blocks through the porous lyophobic layer. Calc...
A reaction-induced phase separation strategy in emulsion droplets has been developed to fabricate non-spherical Janus particles. The final morphology of the resulting Janus particles is controlled by a reaction sequence. These Janus particles are amphiphilic and show regio-selective adsorption orientation at oil/water interfaces.
Synthesis of gold nanoparticles in a biocompatible fluid from sputtering deposition onto castor oil.
The sputtering of Au targets onto castor oil generates stable spherical gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) of 2.4 to 3.8 nm. The AuNP size increases with the discharge voltage and the mechanism of nucleation and growth are related to the energy of the atoms/clusters ejected from the target.
tio 2 nanoparticles (nps) might be considered as the most important photosensitizer due to high photocatalytic and sonocatalytic efficiency, low toxicity, excellent biocompatibility, low cost and high chemical stability. tio 2 -nps normally tend to aggregate in physiological medium and which results to decreased cell viability and inducing expression of stress-related genes. thus dispersion and...
Urban agglomeration economies are usually divided into two categories: urbanization economies and localization economies. In the 1970s and 1980s, a number of attempts were made to estimate urbanization economies and/or localization economies directly in the production function. Since the work by Glaeser et al. in 1992, however, historical effects on agglomeration called dynamic externalities in...
