We investigate under what conditions a neuron can learn by experimentally supported rules for spike timing dependent plasticity (STDP) to predict the arrival times of strong “teacher inputs” to the same neuron. It turns out that in contrast to the famous Perceptron Convergence Theorem, which predicts convergence of the perceptron learning rule for a strongly simplified neuron model whenever a s...

T he two theories that revolutionized physics in the twentieth century, relativity and quantum mechanics, are full of predictions that defy common sense. Recently, we used three such paradoxical ideas to prove “The Free Will Theorem” (strengthened here), which is the culmination of a series of theorems about quantum mechanics that began in the 1960s. It asserts, roughly, that if indeed we human...

Some Schur, Vitali-Hahn-Saks and Nikodým convergence theorems for (l)-group-valued measures are given in the context of (D)-convergence. We consider both the σ-additive and the finitely additive case. Here the notions of strong boundedness, countable additivity and absolute continuity are formulated not necessarily with respect to a same regulator, while the pointwise convergence of the measure...

‎In this paper, based on [A. Razani, V. Rako$check{c}$evi$acute{c}$ and Z. Goodarzi, Nonself mappings in modular spaces and common fixed point theorems, Cent. Eur. J. Math. 2 (2010) 357-366.] a fixed point theorem for non-self contraction mapping $T$ in the modular space $X_rho$ is presented. Moreover, we study a new version of Krasnoseleskii's fixed point theorem for $S+T$, where $T$ is a cont...

In the paper we define the convergence of compact fuzzy sets as a convergence of α-cuts in the topology of compact subsets of a metric space. Furthermore we define typical convergences of fuzzy variables and show relations with convergence of their fuzzy distributions. In this context we prove a general formulation of the Strong Law of Large Numbers for fuzzy sets and fuzzy variables with Archi...

When approximating a space curve, it is natural to consider whether the knot type of the original curve is preserved in the approximant. This preservation is of strong contemporary interest in computer graphics and visualization. We establish a criterion to preserve knot type under approximation that relies upon convergence in both distance and total curvature.

Recently, J. D. Lawson encouraged the domain theory community to consider the scientific program of developing domain theory in the wider context of T0 spaces instead of restricting to posets. In this paper, we respond to this calling with an attempt to formulate a topological version of the Scott Convergence Theorem, i.e., order-theoretic characterisation of those posets for which the Scott-co...

Three examples are provided which demonstrate that “convergence in probability” versions of the Toeplitz lemma, the Cesàro mean convergence theorem, and the Kronecker lemma can fail. “Mean convergence” versions of the Toeplitz lemma, Cesàro mean convergence theorem, and the Kronecker lemma are presented and a general mean convergence theorem for a normed sum of independent random variables is e...
