Bilateral interhemispheric subdural hematoma is a rare posttraumatic lesion that has only received mention in the radiologic literature [1], and a mere four cases have been acknowledged in the medical literature [1, 2]. It is usually associated with severe trauma or extenuating circumstances (anticoagulation, ventriculoperitoneal shunt). We report a fifth case of bilateral interhemispheric subd...
Subdural hematoma is a rare cause of parkinsonism. We present the case of a 78-year-old man with right-side dominant parkinsonism about 3 months after a minor head injury. MRI reveals a chronic subdural hematoma on the left side with mildly displaced midline structures. The parkinsonian features were almost completely disappeared after neurosurgical evacuation of the hematoma without any anti-p...
Electron microscopic data on human bridging veins show thin walls of variable thickness, circumferential arrangement of collagen fibres and a lack of outer reinforcement by arachnoid trabecules, all contributory to the subdural portion of the vein being more fragile than its subarachnoid portion. These features explain the laceration of veins and the subdural location of resultant haematomas.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Epidural anesthesia is a widely used procedure nowadays. Accidental subdural anesthesia after epidural puncture is an uncommon complication. This report aimed at describing two cases of subdural injection which coincidentally have happened in consecutive anesthesias induced by the same anesthesiologist. CASE REPORTS Case 1: Male patient, 41 years old, physical status...
Shaken baby syndrome (SBS), characterized by the triad of subdural haemorrhage, retinal haemorrhage, and encephalopathy, was initially based on the hypothesis that shaking causes tearing of bridging veins and bilateral subdural bleeding. It remains controversial. New evidence since SBS was first defined three decades ago needs to be reviewed. Neuropathology shows that most cases do not have tra...
Persistent hydrocephalus is common in child after resection of posterior fossa tumours. Occurrence subdural hygroma, but very rare, with only few cases reported. We report the rare case a who developed tense hygroma stable hydrocephalus, early postoperative period, following tumour resection. describe distinctive clinical, radiological and pathological features associated development hygroma. a...
Intracranial subdural haematoma is an exceptionally rare complication of spinal anaesthesia. A 20-yr-old male underwent appendicectomy under partial spinal and subsequent general anaesthesia. A week later, he presented with severe headache and vomiting not responding to bed rest and analgesia. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a small acute subdural haematoma in the right temporo-occipital regi...
Simultaneous intracranial and spinal subdural hematomas are extremely rare. In most cases, they are attributed to major or minor trauma and iatrogenic causes, such as those resulting from spinal puncture. To the best of the authors' knowledge, there has been only two reports of spontaneous concomitant intracranial and spinal subdural hematomas in a patient receiving anticoagulant therapy who ha...
Intracranial metastasis, involving the dura mater from neoplasm located outside the central nervous system, is not uncommon; the incidence rate ranges from 3 to 13%. Dural metastasis, associated with chronic subdural hematoma, is particularly rare and occurs in 0.5~4% of intracranial metastatic tumor. As chronic subdural hematoma may mask a metastatic tumor to dura, an accurate diagnosis is dif...
An 88-year-old woman with an undiagnosed chronic subdural haematoma underwent emergency repair of a femoral hernia under spinal anaesthesia. The patient complained of headache postoperatively, and a subsequent computed tomography brain scan showed an acute-on-chronic subdural haematoma, with midline shift and impending coning. The patient recovered completely after surgical decompression. The d...
