Bone-patellar tendon-bone graft has been an attractive option for single-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in clinical practice. However, the graft-tunnel mismatch in the proximal part of the tibial tunnel and the ultimate strength after postoperative ligamentization process have been potential problems for the traditional 10-mm wide graft. We modified the traditional bone-patell...

Nineteen consecutive patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using the central third of the ipsilateral patellar tendon were included in the study. Serial magnetic resonance images revealed that the donor-site gap in the tendon decreased with time (mean follow-up, 26 months). The thickness was significantly increased compared with the intact contralateral patellar tendon, ...

The authors report a case of a 47-year-old professional driver with an acute, simultaneous tear of patellar tendon and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The patient was treated in two stages. Acute patellar tendon repair and delayed (6-month postinjury) ACL reconstruction was performed. The authors discuss the possible mechanism of injury and the rationality of the two-stage surgical treatment.

Arthroscopic reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) using the middle third of the patellar tendon is an effective method for treating ACL insufficiency. Donor site morbidities are usually mild. This article presents a case of simultaneous patellar fracture and patellar tendon avulsion that occurred 8 weeks after this operation. Such a case has rarely been reported. Theoretically...

The multiple-ligament injured knee is a complex problem in orthopaedic surgery. Most dislocated knees involve tears of the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments (ACL/PCL) and at least 1 collateral ligament complex. Careful assessment of the extremity vascular status is essential because of the possibility of arterial and/or venous compromise. These complex injuries require a systematic appr...

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to report on ankle and foot functions via the holistic evaluations using clinical examination, functional scores assessment and isokinetic tests after harvesting autogenous peroneus longus tendons for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction focusing on the donor site morbidity with a minimum 1-year follow-up period. MATERIAL AND METHOD The stud...

Tibialis anterior tendon tear is an uncommon injury. Nontraumatic or degenerative tears are usually seen in the avascular zone of the tendon. Treatment can be conservative or surgical. Conservative treatment is adequate for low-demand older patients. For active patients, surgical treatment can be challenging for the surgeon because after debridement of degenerative tissue, a gap may be formed t...

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with patellar tendon allograft tissue is a common orthopedic procedure. It is unknown what effect, if any, the donor age has on clinical outcomes. Biomechanical studies have shown the strength of cadaveric patellar tendon to be independent of age, but no clinical studies have evaluated patient outcomes related to this variable. The purpose of this study...

Rupture of the distal biceps brachii tendon typically occur in a contraction against resistance with the elbow in 90° of flexion. Chronic ruptures are uncommon and are complicated by tendon and muscle retraction and poor quality. Some reconstruction techniques have been described in the literature, with variations on the surgical exposures, type of graft (allo or autograft), graft donor site, a...

In anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, slow graft maturation may result in graft failure or elongation during the postoperative rehabilitation period. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a potent mediator of angiogenesis. The findings of recent studies suggest that VEGF application is a potential strategy to accelerate angiogenesis in the graft after ACL reconstruction. Ho...
