The first special volume of Limnology and Oceanography, published in 1972, focused on whether phosphorus (P) or carbon (C) is the major agent causing eutrophication in aquatic ecosystems. Only slight mention was made that estuaries may behave differently from lakes and that nitrogen (N) may cause eutrophication in estuaries. In the following decade, an understanding of eutrophication in estuari...
This paper presents some aspects related to the DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) investigation. The basic aspects of DVB are presented, with an emphasis on DVB-T version of standard. The main purpose of this research is to analyze the way that the transmission of the transport streams is realized in case of the Terrestrial Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB-T). To accomplish this, first, Digital V...
This paper presents a study of packet data services over wireless connections in the context of Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS). To perform the study an emulator of the radio access part has been made which includes the mobile terminal and the UMTS Terrestrial Radio Network (UTRAN). The main features, the validation procedure and some results are contained.
TRANSMISSION ERRORS Robert Swann and Nick Kingsbury Cambridge University Engineering Department Trumpington Street, Cambridge CB2 1PZ. U.K. e-mail: [email protected] and [email protected] ABSTRACT This paper is concerned with the performance of MPEGII compressed video[1] when transmitted over noisy channels, such as for digital terrestrial television. We present the results of bit sensitivity...
An achievable rate region for line networks with edge and node capacity constraints and broadcast channels (BCs) is derived. The region is shown to be the capacity region if the BCs are orthogonal, deterministic, physically degraded, or packet erasure with one-bit feedback. If the BCs are physically degraded with additive Gaussian noise then independent Gaussian inputs achieve capacity.
abstract background and purpose: eutrophication is one of the major environmental problems in waterways causing substantial adverse impact on domestic, livestock and recreational use of water resources. aras dam, iran which provides arasful city with drinking water, has chronic algal blooms since 1990. levels of up to 900,000 cells/ml of toxic cyanobacteria (mainly anabaena and microcystis) hav...
Eutrophication of lakes and reservoirs is a major water quality problem that poses significant environmental, economic and social threats around the world. Monitoring and managing lakes and reservoirs to prevent or limit eutrophication, therefore, has significant value. The literature has been reviewed to study ecological engineering and management methods that have been and can be applied to i...
Human-induced eutrophication is a serious environmental problem that constrains visual communication and influences the mate choice process in fishes. Eutrophication also changes the chemical environment and the pH of the water, which could influence the use of olfactory cues in mate choice. Here, we show that an increase in pH enhances the use of male olfactory cues in mate choice in three-spi...
This paper presents the results of a research study into blind and partially sighted peoples accessibility of broadcast television, drawing out implications for the design of iTV, in terms of the expectations and requirements for enhanced television viewing.
By having implemented digital terrestrial television (DTT) in Latin American countries and taking into account their ability to develop interactive services, new possibilities have been opened for improved connectivity in rural areas and those with difficult access by using applications that enable ubiquitous communication. In order to transfer the existing knowledge from Spain and Europe, the ...
