We consider stochastic dynamics for a spin system with mean field interaction, in which the interaction potential is subject to noisy and dissipative stochastic evolution. We show that, in the thermodynamic limit and at sufficiently low temperature, the magnetization of the system has a time periodic behavior, despite of the fact that no periodic force is applied.

An asymmetric generalization of the zero-temperature q-state Potts model on a one-dimensional lattice, with and without boundaries, has been studied. The dynamics of the particle number, and especially the large time behavior of the system, has been analyzed. In the thermodynamic limit, the system exhibits two kinds of phase transitions, a static and a dynamic phase transition.

A lattice-model study of double-mutant cycles published in BMC Structural Biology underscores how interactions in non-native conformations can lead to thermodynamic coupling between distant residues in globular proteins, adding to recent advances in delineating the often crucial roles played by disordered conformational ensembles in protein behavior.

In certain physical situations, extensive interactions arise naturally in systems. We consider one such situation, namely, small-world couplings. We show that, for a fixed fraction of nonlocal couplings, synchronous chaos is always a stable attractor in the thermodynamic limit. We point out that randomness helps synchronization. We also show that there is a size dependent bifurcation in the col...

The purpose of this work was to study the adhesion to polystyrene of two Candida parapsilosis strains, grown at 22 and 37 degrees C, in terms of hydrophobicity, surface charge, and interaction free energy. Growth temperature changed the surface properties of microorganisms, yielding a good correlation between thermodynamic predictions and adhesion behavior.

The thermodynamic Bethe ansatz method is employed for the study of the integrable critical RSOS(q1, q2; q) model. The high and low temperature behavior are investigated, and the central charge of the effective conformal field theory is derived. The obtained central charge is expressed as the sum of the central charges of two generalized coset models.

We investigate a network of integrate-and-fire neurons characterized by a distribution of spiking frequencies. Upon increasing the coupling strength, the model exhibits a transition from an asynchronous regime to a nontrivial collective behavior. At variance with the Kuramoto model, (i) the macroscopic dynamics is irregular even in the thermodynamic limit, and (ii) the microscopic (single-neuro...

We investigate the equation of state, diffusion coefficient, and structural order of a family of spherically symmetric potentials consisting of a hard core and a linear repulsive ramp. This generic potential has two characteristic length scales: the hard and soft core diameters. The family of potentials is generated by varying their ratio, lambda. We find negative thermal expansion (thermodynam...

Singularities of thermodynamic quantities in equilibrium critical phenomena are characterized by well defined critical exponents. The set of critical exponents determine the universality class of a system in the thermodynamic limit. In numerical simulations, the results are very often limited by the finite system size L. There is rounding and shifting of critical singularities in finite systems...
