This paper proposes a class of full space diversity QPSK space-time codes based on parallel concatenated convolutional (turbo) codes. A rank criterion of full space diversity is used in the design. Compared with space-time trellis codes, the simulations show it has robust performance at both quasi-static fading channel and time varying fading channel.

Space-time coding for the flat fading, quasistatic MIMO wireless channel has received wide spread attention. This paper treats space-time code design for frequency selective channels from a single carrier modulation perspective. We present a general framework for analyzing space-time codes for delay spread channels based on PEP analysis. It is shown that as in the flat fading case, diversity ga...

A key element for many fading-compensation techniques is a (long-range) prediction tool for the fading channel. A linear approach, usually used to model the time evolution of the fading process, does not perform well for long-range prediction applications. In this article, we propose an adaptive fading channel prediction algorithm using a sum-sinusoidal-based state-space approach. This algorith...

Stefan H. Müller–Weinfurtner Wireless Systems Research Dept., AT&T Labs – Research, 200 Laurel Avenue South, Middletown, NJ 07748, USA Abstract—The multiple antenna channel coding problem in Orthogonal Frequency–Division Multiplexing is reconsidered, because with frequency interleaving the effective channel characteristic across tones is rather fast fading and does not comply with the quasi–sta...

This paper deals with the H∞ control problem for a class of discrete time-varying nonlinear systems with both randomly occurring nonlinearities and fading measurements over a finite-horizon. The system measurements are transmitted through fading channels described by a modified stochastic Rice fading model. The purpose of the addressed problem is to design a set of time-varying controllers such...

We investigate the effects of fading correlations on wireless communication systems employing multiple antennas at both the receiver and the transmitter side of the link, so called multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. It turns out that the amount of transmitter sided channel knowledge plays an important part when dealing with fading correlations. Furthermore, the possible availability...

Two widely-studied approaches for structuring fault-tolerant services are the state-machine and the primary-backup replication schemes. For a large class of soft and hard real-time applications, the degree of consistency among servers can be exploited to design replication protocols with predictable timing behavior. This is particularly useful in applications, such as automated process control,...

Evidence for multisensory integration is found in many different circumstances, notably as facilitation or inhibition of responses to cross-modal stimulus sets, compared to unimodal stimulation. Prime examples of facilitation include increased firing rate of a multisensory neuron, acceleration of manual or saccadic reaction time, or effective integration of audiovisual speech. Besides facilitat...
