We realize an experimental control over the topological stability of three-lobe discrete vortex solitons by modifying the symmetry of a hexagonal photonic lattice optically induced in a photorefractive crystal. By continuously deforming the lattice wave in one transverse direction, we manipulate the coupling between lattice sites and induce or inhibit the reversal of soliton vorticity.

I consider a supersymmetric Bogomolny-type model in 2+1 dimensions originating from topological string theory. By a gauge fixing this model is reduced to a supersymmetric U(n) chiral model with aWess-Zumino-Witten-type term in 2+1 dimensions. New single soliton solutions to the affine Toda field theories are constructed, exhibiting previously unobserved topological charges. This goes some of the way in filling the weights of the fundamental representations, but nevertheless holes in the representations remain. We use the group doublecross product form of the inverse scattering method, and restrict ourselves to the rank one solutions.
