The problems posed by tracheal intubation in the presence of a tracheal bronchus in adults are exemplified with three case histories. The anomaly has been categorized into three types on the basis of its potential to cause problems when attempting intubation. Suggestions are given for ways of securing the airway that are safe and less likely to result in obstruction and hypoxia.

We retrospectively reviewed the anesthesia records of infants < 1 year of age for elucidating the incidence of difficult intubation and airway management in a single general hospital. The electronic data records from a total of 753 consecutive anesthesiological procedures in 513 different infants were analyzed. After excluding data with a lack of records of laryngoscopic findings, a total of 49...

BACKGROUND Based on the data from elective surgical patients, positioning patients in a back-up head-elevated position for preoxygenation and tracheal intubation can improve patient safety. However, data specific to the emergent setting are lacking. We hypothesized that back-up head-elevated positioning would be associated with a decrease in complications related to tracheal intubation in the e...

We here describe a videolaryngoscope assisted fibreoptic tracheal intubation in a 17-year-old patient with Hunter Syndrome (Mucopolysaccharidosis Type II) and known difficult intubation who required posterior cervical fusion surgery for cervical canal stenosis. The patient had a history of failed nasal and oral fibreoptic intubation. The use of a videolaryngoscope enabled continuous visualizati...

PURPOSE To compare the ease of tracheal intubation facilitated by the gum elastic bougie or the malleable stylet while applying cricoid pressure. METHODS Sixty American Society of Anesthesiologists I-III adult patients undergoing elective surgeries participated in this study. After induction of anesthesia with 2.5 mg x kg(-1) propofol and vecuronium 0.1 mg x kg(-1), the laryngeal view was ass...

Iatrogenic tracheal rupture is a rare but recognized complication after endotracheal intubation. Although rare, it carries high morbidity and mortality. Seemingly uneventful intubations can result in injury to the trachea requiring prompt diagnosis management. Here, we report patient of post intubation who was successfully treated by conservative Bangladesh Crit Care J September 2022; 10(2): 16...
