BACKGROUND Post intubation long segment tracheal stenosis is a serious problem which usually requires multiple methods of treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of surgical treatment in long segment post intubation tracheal stenosis. METHODS Between 2004 to 2008, 20 patients with proximal long segment tracheal stenosis and resection of over 40% of tracheal length, were a...
Adverse events following surgical operations are common complications due to removal of tracheal tube in contrast to the tracheal intubation. Awareness about the new methods and strategies for tracheal tube extubation is necessary for a safe and successful extubation. Therefore, we aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of laryngeal mask airway (LMA), streamlined liner of the pharyngeal airway...
Extracranial involvement of the recurrent laryngeal nerve and the hypoglossal nerve is known as Tapia's syndrome. Ipsilateral paralysis of the vocal cord and tongue is present. Lesion of these nerves may be a rare complication of airway management. Herein, a case of Tapia's Syndrome complicating transoral intubation during general anaesthesia in a rhinoplasty operation, together with a review o...
skip to the next step of the difficult airway management algorithm.” Because of these standards, we did not measure intubation or apnea times. We thank Xue et al. for their pertinent propositions, some of them being currently applied for several years. We have responded to three issues of Shetty et al. in our response to Xue et al. We have precisely defined exclusion/ inclusion criteria includi...
BACKGROUND There is increasing evidence that tissue-specific modifications of basic cellular functions play an important role in development and disease. To identify the functions of COPI coatomer-mediated membrane trafficking in Drosophila development, we were aiming to create loss-of-function mutations in the gammaCOP gene, which encodes a subunit of the COPI coatomer complex. PRINCIPAL FIN...
microbial biofilms has remained a major complication of tracheal intubation in patients requiring ventilator equipment. the aim of this study was to characterize bacterial and fungal biofilms in endotracheal tubes from intensive care unit (icu) patients in ahwaz, iran. in this cross-sectional descriptive study, patients admitted to icu that required mechanical ventilation for at least 24 hours ...
Animals depend upon epithelial and endothelial tubes to transport gases and liquids in the body, and the sizes of the tubes are critical for their transport function. Tube size must be controlled not only during tube formation but throughout development in order to maintain functionality as the animal grows. For example, the human aorta expands approx. 100-fold between embryonic and adult life ...
Although the incidence of post-intubation tracheal stenosis has markedly decreased with the advent of large volume, low pressure endotracheal tube cuffs, it still occurs, commonly in patients after prolonged intubation. We report a case of tracheal stenosis that developed after a brief period of endotracheal intubation, and that was misdiagnosed and treated as asthma and panic attacks.
