This paper describes an experimental analysis to study error propagation from the gate to the chip level. The target system is the CPU in the Bendix BDX-930, an avionic miniprocessor. Error activity data for the study was collected via a gatelevel simulation. A family of distributions to characterize the error propagation, both within the chip and at the pins, was then generated. Based on these...

The Fluid Flow Group (FFG) at NESTmaintains flow standards to perform calibrations of gas flowmeters over the 3.7x 10-2L/rein@to 78,000 L/rein flow range. Uncertainty analyses based on the propagation of uncertainties method show that the uncertainties of the provers range from O.16’%o to O.19’?40. The results of inter-laboratory comparisons and intra-laboratory comparisons (i.e., “crossover te...

The Integrated Data Analysis (IDA) concept allows one to combine data from different experiments to obtain improved results. Heterogeneous and complementary experimental data as well as various kinds of physical prior information are easily integrated employing Bayesian probability theory. The concepts of IDA are compared to the traditional approach for data analysis where sequential analysis a...

In this paper we consider hierarchically decomposed multilevel systems, and extend previous deterministic methodologies for optimal and consistent design of such systems to account for the presence of uncertainties. Specifically, we use the probabilistic formulation of the analytical target cascading process to solve the multilevel problem, and use an advanced mean value-based technique to esti...

The fluids speed measurement, particularly the air speed measurement is very important for industrial and laboratory applications. The ultrasonic method is among the most common methods used for determining the air speed. The basic principle to measure a fluid speed, using an ultrasonic transducer, is based on the modification of the apparent propagation speed of an ultrasonic signal caused by ...

A microblog repost tree provides strong clues on how an event described therein develops. To help social media users capture the main clues of events on microblogging sites, we propose a novel repost tree summarization framework by effectively differentiating two kinds of messages on repost trees called leaders and followers, which are derived from contentlevel structure information, i.e., cont...

The interpretation of remotely sensed images in a spatiotemporal context is becoming a valuable research topic. It helps predicting future trends and behaviors, allowing remotely sensed users to make proactive and knowledgedriven decisions. These decisions are useful for urban sprawl prevention, estimation of changes regarding productivity, and planting status of agricultural products, etc. How...

Iterative aggregation-disaggregation methods for numerical computing of stationary probability distribution vectors of stochastic matrices are studied. The methods can use arbitrary numbers of levels and of smoothing steps. A formula for the error propagation is derived. Using this formula, some asymptotic convergence properties of these methods for non-symmetric problems are demonstrated.

Video packets have different significances due to the video coding property. When delivering video data without priority strategy over the Internet, it will seriously degrade the received picture quality. This paper proposes an Unequal Priority Arrangement (UPA) mechanism for video transmission on differentiated service networks. UPA determines the priority of a video packet according to the ev...

The paper considers the statistical work of the physicist Harold Jeffreys. In 1933–4 Jeffreys had a controversy with R.A. Fisher, the leading statistician of the time. Prior to the encounter, Jeffreys had worked on probability as the basis for scientific inference and had used methods from the theory of errors in astronomy and seismology. He had also started to rework the theory of errors on th...
