The use of metal complexes to achieve a conductive molecular junction with a special focus on organometallics is overviewed and illustrated with representative examples. The prospects offered by such compounds owing to their specific properties are discussed.

Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of a great variety of molecular metal complexes with interesting magnetic or optical properties have been prepared in the last few years. Some of the results obtained by our group and others are summarized in this article.

For metal-based compounds, the ground- and excited-state dipole moments and the difference thereof are, for the first time, obtained both experimentally and theoretically using solvatochromic equations and DFT/B3LYP/QZVP calculations. The approach is suggested to be promising and easily accessible, and can be universal to elucidate the electronic properties of metal-based compounds.
