BACKGROUND The notion that schizophrenia patients' (SZ) sense of being detached from external reality is a core feature of the disorder has existed since the early days of its recognition and is still largely emphasized in first person accounts of SZs; however, its etiology, neurophysiological mechanism, and significance for clinical symptoms are unclear. Mind-wandering is a ubiquitous experien...

If p is entire, g(z) = a + b exp(2i=c), where a , b , c are non-zero constants and the normal set of g(p) has no wandering components, then the same is true for the normal set of p(g). Let f be a rational function of degree at least 2 or a nonlinear entire function. Let f n , for n 2 N denote the nth iterate of f. Denote the set of normality by N(f) and the Julia set by J(f). Thus N(f) = fz : (...

Major advances in resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) techniques in the last two decades have provided a tool to better understand the functional organization of the brain both in health and illness. Despite such developments, characterizing regulation and cerebral representation of mind wandering, which occurs unavoidably during resting-state fMRI scans and may induce va...

PURPOSE This study investigated various factors related to wandering behavior of Korean elders with dementia (KED). METHODS A sample of 160 ambulatory residents with dementia from 14 long term care facilities was used to examine demographic, individual, cognitive, physical health, and environmental characteristics by comparing wanderers (N=108) to nonwanders (N=52). Subjects were evaluated by...

( Mind wandering, in which cognitive processing ofthe external environment decreases in favor of internal processing (Smallwood & Schooler, 2006), has been consistently associated with errors on tasks requiring sustained attention and continuous stimulus monitoring (e.g., Cheyne, Carriere, & Smilek, 2006; Robertson, Manly, Andrade, Baddeley, & Yiend, 1997; Smallwood et al., 2004). Consistent wi...

Evidence suggests that mind wandering is a frequent accompaniment to an unhappy mood. Building on such work, two laboratory experiments used mood induction to assess whether the greater frequency of mind wandering in a low mood is also accompanied by a shift towards a focus on events from the past. Experiment 1 induced moods via video and induction of an unhappy mood was associated with a great...

Driver distraction is a persistent threat to traffic safety. External distraction has been examined extensively, but few studies have focused on internal distraction such as mind wandering. Equivocal results from the few existing studies are likely due, at least in part, to different experimental methods. Mind wandering is commonly assessed using either a self-caught or probe-caught method. The...

On geometrically finite negatively curved surfaces, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a one-sided horocycle (hu)s≥0 to be dense in the nonwandering set of the geodesic flow. We prove that all dense one-sided orbits (hu)s≥0 are equidistributed, extending results of [Bu] and [Scha2] where symmetric horocycles (hu)−R≤s≤R were considered.

1 When is your head at? An exploration of the factors associated with the temporal focus of the wandering mind. The temporal focus of the wandering mind 2 ABSTRACT Two experiments employed experience sampling to examine the factors associated with prospective and retrospective focus during mind wandering. Experiment One explored the contribution of working memory to future and past related task...

Introduction: Wandering spleen is a rare condition, caused by elongation or maldevelopment of splenic ligaments resulting in splenic hypermobility. Very few cases, if any, have been documented in the elderly population. Herein, we report a case of wandering spleen with pancreatic volvulus and colonic obstruction in an 87yearold female. Case Report: The patient presented with recurrent abdomin...
