BACKGROUND Splitting of Cooper pairs has recently been realized experimentally for s-wave Cooper pairs. A split Cooper pair represents an entangled two-electron pair state, which has possible application in on-chip quantum computation. Likewise the spin-activity of interfaces in nanoscale tunnel junctions has been investigated theoretically and experimentally in recent years. However, the possi...

Kinetic and tluid treatments of nonlinear wave interactions (wave mixing and electromagnetic wave scatrering) in plasmas are considered and the difference between the two approaches is discussed. Solving the kinetic equation by the method of moments makes it possible to substantiate the validity and find the applicability range of the fluid approach to the study of nonlinear plasma processes. I...

Planckian scattering of particles with angular momenta is studied by describing them as sources of Kerr metric. In the shock wave formalism, it is found that the angular momenta do not contribute to the scattering amplitude in the eikonal limit. This is confirmed by using the wave equation of the test particle in the Kerr background. Typeset using REVTEX E-Mail: saurya,[email protected] 1

We discuss the atom-atom scattering problem across a Feshbach resonance in a two-dimensional dilute Bose gas at zero temperature, in the limit where the s-wave scattering length exceeds the width of the vertical confinement. We determine a tunable coupling-strength parameter and by controlling it we evaluate how the condensate wave function spreads out with increasing atom-atom repulsions. We a...

Time-resolved Fourier optical diffuse tomography is a novel approach for imaging of objects in a highly scattering turbid medium with use of an incident (near) plane wave. The theory of the propagation of spatial Fourier components of the scattered wave field is presented, along with a fast algorithm for three-dimensional reconstruction in a parallel planar geometry. Examples of successful reco...

To model elastic wave scattering from fatigue cracks in metals, studies were conducted of wave scattering from artificial cracks using ultrasonic spectroscopy. The cracks are of two dimensional planar strips oriented at various angles and embedded in diffusion bonded titanium alloy. The crack is assumed to behave as a Griffith crack and expressions (derived by Achenbach1) to describe diffracted...

High energy scattering experiments involving nuclei are typically analyzed in terms of light front variables. The desire to provide realistic, relativistic wave functions expressed in terms of these variables led me to try to use light front dynamics to compute nuclear wave functions. Here calculations of infinite nuclear matter in the mean field approximation and also in a light front version ...

We study the wave equation for the gravitational fluctuations in the Randall-Sundrum brane cosmology model. We solve the global Cauchy problem and we establish that the solutions are the sum of a slowly decaying massless wave localized near the brane, and a superposition of massive dispersive waves. We compute the kernel of the truncated resolvent. We prove some L − L, L 2 − L ∞ decay estimates...

The propagation of surface water waves over rough topographical bottoms is investigated by the multiple scattering theory. It is shown that the waves can be localized spatially through the process of multiple scattering and wave interference, a peculiar wave phenomenon which has been previously discussed for frozen light in optical systems [Nature 390, 661 (1997)]]. This paper demonstrates that...

We report on the direct imaging of s and d partial-wave interference in cold collisions of atoms. Two ultracold clouds of 87Rb atoms were accelerated by magnetic fields to collide at energies near a d-wave shape resonance. The resulting halos of scattered particles were imaged using laser absorption. By scanning across the resonance we observed a marked evolution of the scattering patterns due ...
