Aphid populations show periodic fluctuations and many causes are attributed to their dynamic. We investigated the regulation by temperature of the aphid populations composed of Metopolophium dirhodum, Sitobion avenae, and Rhopalosiphum padi on winter wheat using a 24 years long time series data. We computed the sum of daily temperatures above 5 °C, the threshold temperature for aphid developmen...

Our overall goal was to investigate several aspects of pecan weevil, Curculio caryae, suppression with entomopathogenic nematodes. Specifically, our objectives were to: 1) determine optimum moisture levels for larval suppression, 2) determine suppression of adult C. caryae under field conditions, and 3) measure the effects of a surfactant on nematode efficacy. In the laboratory, virulence of He...

We evaluated the mating ability of male western corn rootworms, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera Leconte (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), for 20 d after initial mating, using a series of laboratory experiments. Males mated an average of 2.24 times within 10 d after their first mating and averaged 0.15 matings between days 11 and 20 after their first mating. Because estimating the mating frequency in ...

BACKGROUND After decades during which endosymbionts were considered as silent in their hosts, in particular concerning the immune system, recent studies have revealed the contrary. In the present paper, we addressed the effect of Wolbachia, the most prevalent endosymbiont in arthropods, on host immunocompetence. To this end, we chose the A. vulgare-Wolbachia symbiosis as a model system because ...

Wrack removal has been adopted indiscriminately, with no previous assessment of the ecological implications for sandy beach ecosystem. This study evaluated, through an M-BACI design, the effect of wrack removal on supralittoral arthropods on Atlantic sandy beaches receiving different types of wrack: mangrove propagules (Brazil), seagrasses and macroalgae (Spain). Impacted plots were contrasted ...

Technomyrmex montaserisp. n. is described and illustrated from Oman based on the worker caste collected in Bani Sur. It belongs to the Technomyrmex gibbosus-group, with closest resemblance to Technomyrmex vexatus (Santschi, 1919) and Technomyrmex gibbosus W. M. Wheeler, 1906. A key to the Arabian Technomyrmex is given.

Morphological analysis of Gephyrocapsa spp. in plankton samples confirms the existence of five out of six morphotypes that were previously reported from Holocene sediments. Our data suggest a much higher diversity within the genus Gephyrocapsa than the currently accepted species circumscriptions. Furthermore, we confirm the morphological species delineations made by Kamptner that allow the sepa...
