We identify two categories of reconstructions occurring on wurtzite GaN surfaces, the first associated with the N-face, (000 ), and the second associated with the Ga-face, (0001). Not only do these two categories of reconstructions have completely different symmetries, but they also have different temperature dependence. It is thus demonstrated that surface reconstructions can be used to identi...

Abstract The use of graphite substrates has been demonstrated in thin-film Cu 2 ZnSnS 4 (CZTS) solar cells and can serve as alternative electrodes for next-generation, cells. From the early stages CZTS development, Mo-coated composed copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), tin (Sn), sulfur (S) have employed stability at high temperature. However, Mo become a rare metal recent years; correspondingly, there are ...

Ambient S annealing was adopted to regulate the crystallinity of a ZnS microsphere, which resulted in a significant improvement in the photocatalytic hydrogen production activity (PHPA). Moreover, with S ambient treatment, wurtzite ZnS showed better PHPA than sphalerite ZnS, possibly because the inter-polar electric field of the wurtzite phase could promote the separation of photo-excited elect...

Ultra-narrow wurtzite ZnS quantum wires assembled towards an onion slice shape are synthesized in water using a simple hydrothermal procedure. Wires are formed through an oriented attachment mechanism from wurtzite ZnS spherical particles. Strong confinement effect originated from the narrow width was observed and holds promise for use in broad optoelectronic device application.

The hexagonal zinc oxide coated nickel (Ni/ZnO) nanostructure photocatalyst has successfully been prepared by the reduction of nickel chloride hexahydrate using hydrazine hydrate through the solvothermal process at 140 °C followed by surface modification of the product by the reflux method at 110 °C for 1 h. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern showed that the 'as prepared' sample consists of fa...

Ultrathin InAs nanowires (NWs) can enable true one-dimensional electronics. We report a growth phenomenon where a bimodal size distribution (∼ α nm and ∼ 5 nm in diameter) of InAs NWs can be achieved from gold (Au) nanoparticles of a single size, α (α = 50-250 nm). We determine that ultrathin InAs NW growth is seeded by ultra-small Au nanoparticles shed from the large Au seeds upon indium (In) ...

Nanocomposites formed by porous silicon (PS) and zinc oxide (ZnO) have potential for applications in optoelectronic devices. However, understanding the distribution of both materials in the nanocomposite, and especially the fine structure of the synthesized ZnO crystals, is key for future device fabrication. This study focuses on the advanced characterization of a range of PS-ZnO nanocomposites...

Undoped and Mn-doped ZnO nanoparticles were successfully prepared by the hydrothermal method with different annealing temperature conditions. Structural, chemical and optical properties of the samples were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field Emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), UV-Vis spectrophotometry and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The phase purity was con...

Nano-crystalline ZnO particles were synthesized using alcoholic solutions of zinc acetate dihydrate through a colloidal process. Five types of capping agents: 3-aminopropyl trimethoxysilane (Am), tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), mercaptosuccinic acid (Ms), 3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane (Mp) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (Pv) were added at the first ZnO precipitation time (first PPT) to limit the...
