We report a synthesis of highly luminescent (CdSe)ZnS composite quantum dots with CdSe cores ranging in diameter from 23 to 55 Å. A simple approach was introduced to enhance the photostability of CuInS2@ZnS core@shell quantum dots (QDs) by doping aluminium into the ZnS shell. Aluminium in the as-prepared QDs was oxidized to Al2O3, which formed a passivation oxide layer that effectively prevents photo-degradation of QDs during long-term light irradiation.

Crystal orientation-ordered ZnS nanobelt quasi-arrays were fabricated using a non-catalytic and template-free thermal evaporation process; field-emission measurements show that these novel arrays are decent field emitters possessing a current density more than 20 times higher than that of randomly-oriented ZnS nanobelt ensembles at a macroscopic field of 5.5 V microm(-1).
