Erythrovirus (formerly parvovirus) B19 causes a wide range of diseases in humans, including anemia due to aplastic crisis. Diagnosis of B19 infection relies on serology and the detection of viral DNA by PCR. These techniques are usually thought to detect all erythrovirus field isolates, since the B19 genome is known to undergo few genetic variations. We have detected an erythrovirus (V9) marked...

Parvovirus B19-introduction Parvovirus B19 (B19) is an erythrovirus and recent studies have classified B19 as a genotype 1 erythrovirus with genotypes 2 (erythrovirus K71 or A6) and 3 (erythrovirus V9) also present in the human population. B19 is a significant human pathogen which can cause foetal hydrops and foetal death if maternal infection, followed by transplacental QA :1 foetal infection,...

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Leukaemia and lymphoma are common paediatric haematological malignancies acquiring human parvovirus B19 (B19) infection. In some studies anaemia has been found in children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) during maintenance therapy and rarely in lymphoma. We studied frequency of B19 infection and its implications in new onset acute leukaemia (mostly ALL) and lymp...

conclusions in this study b19-parvovirus infection were detected in patients with hematologic disorders in comparison with control subjects. screening of patients with a high risk of parvovirus b19 infection can considerably reduce the incidence and prevalence of b19 infection. results the parvovirus b19-specific nucleotide sequence was detected in 6 patients (20%). none of the samples obtained...

Dilated cardiomyopathies (DCM) are a major cause of mortality in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Immune responses induced by human parvovirus B19 (B19) are considered an important pathogenic mechanism in myocarditis or DCM. However, little is known about Th17-related cytokines in SLE patients with DCM about the linkage with B19 infection. IgM and IgG against B19 viral protein,...

Human parvovirus B19 infection is occasionally associated with acute lymphocytic myocarditis (ALM). Three infants with B19 virus-associated ALM were followed up clinically, histologically, and immunovirologically. Each infant had B19 virus DNA in the blood or B19 virus-specific IgM antibodies. Two infants with postnatal infection recovered after immunosuppressive therapy. The third infant with ...

Parvovirus B19 involvement was investigated in 30 children with severe aplastic anaemia. Active or recent parvovirus B19 infection, as shown by B19 DNA viraemia, positive B19 specific IgM antibodies, or both, was diagnosed in six patients. There were no other plausible causes. We suggest that parvovirus B19 infection might be associated with severe aplastic anaemia.

Parvovirus B19 is a small DNA virus. Infection with parvovirus B19 during pregnancy may cause serious complications in the fetus, including hydrops fetalis and fetal death. The purpose of the present study is to clarify the clinical manifestations and outcomes of parvovirus B19 infection during pregnancy. This prospective study enrolled 478 women with suspected B19 infections during pregnancy b...

Human parvovirus B19 is a single-stranded DNA virus which preferentially targets the erythroblasts in the bone marrow. B19 infection commonly causes erythema infectiosum, arthralgia, fetal death, transient aplastic crisis in patients with shortened red cell survival, and persistent infection in people who are immunocompromised. Less common clinical manifestations include atypical skin rashes, n...

Plasma samples obtained at delivery from 885 pregnant Ghanaian women were tested for human parvovirus B19 DNA and B19-specific antibodies. Maternal-fetal transmission was evaluated by testing paired maternal plasma and umbilical cord blood samples, as well as newborn whole-blood samples when they were available. The B19 DNA seroprevalence rate in women was 1.8% (94% had genotype 3 strains), and...
