Aeromonads are inhabitants of aquatic ecosystems and are described as being involved in intestinal disturbances and other infections. A total of 200 drinking water samples from domestic and public reservoirs and drinking fountains located in São Paulo (Brazil), were analyzed for the presence of Aeromonas. Samples were concentrated by membrane filtration and enriched in APW. ADA medium was used ...

A study was carried out on the occurrence and activity of chitinolytic planktonic bacteria of Aeromonas sp., Aeromonas hydrophila and Aeromonas salmonicida species, isolated from lake Jeziorak. Among the identified strains decomposing chitin the most abundant were Aeromonas sp.. All the investigated strains showed maximum chitinolytic activity at pH 6.0. An increase in chitinolytic activity was...

aeromonas hydrophila is pathogen for several vertebrates. the bacteriological, clinical and epidemiological evidences for the role of a. hydrophila have been described in human infections. the presence of this pathogen in contaminated water is well-established and ingestion of such water may cause infection. there are many reports of acute diarrhoea associated with a. hydrophila transmitted by ...

Aeromonas hydrophila is an opportunistic pathogen residing in freshwater environments that causes infection in fish and mammals. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of A. hydrophila strain TN97-08 isolated from a diseased bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) in 1997.

Recent studies have revealed that the use of probiotics is an alternative to control marine aeromonas. However, few probiotics are available against Aeromonas hydrophila infections in eels. In the present study, a potential antagonistic strain G1 against the eel-pathogenic A. hydrophila was isolated from sediment underlying brackish water. Its extracellular products with antibacterial activitie...

Over a four and a half month period, 1004 unselected routine faecal specimens from 815 patients were cultured for Aeromonas hydrophila. Forty-two specimens (4.2%) representing 38 patients were culture-positive. The study specimens also yielded Salmonella on 116 occasions, Shigella on seven, Campylobacter species on six and other bacterial pathogens on 17 occasions, respectively. Seven specimens...

The present study was conducted to investigate the incidence of the pathogens Aeromonas hydrophila and Plesiomonas shigelloides in 700 seafoods (400 raw fish, 100 raw shrimps and 200 raw mollusks) collected from retailers. Isolations were performed by conventional culture methods. The isolates were also confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays. A. hydrophila and P. shigelloides were ...

Aeromonas hydrophila strain KOR1, isolated from mangrove rhizosphere soil, has the ability to produce the quorum-sensing signal molecule. Here, we report the 4.78-Mb genome sequence of strain KOR1, and found its quorum-sensing encoding gene LuxR. The data will be crucial to understanding the quorum-sensing-dependent phenotypes of this bacterium.

The mesophilic Aeromonas hydrophila AH-3 (serotype O34) strain shows two different UDP-hexose epimerases in its genome: GalE (EC 3.1.5.2) and Gne (EC 3.1.5.7). Similar homologues were detected in the different mesophilic Aeromonas strains tested. GalE shows only UDP-galactose 4-epimerase activity, while Gne is able to perform a dual activity (mainly UDP-N-acetyl galactosamine 4-epimerase and al...
