In the present study, six species of Basidiomycetes all belonging to the genus Agaricus are reported for the first time from Iran along with details of macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. Six species are as follows: Agaricus campestris, A. lalage, A. nigrovinosus, A. nivescens, A. purpurellus and A. silvaticus.
To clarify the mechanism of the antiallergic activity of Agaricus blazei Murill extract (ABME), the present paper used an in vivo allergy model and an in vitro intestinal gut model. During OVA sensitization, the serum IgE levels decreased significantly in ABME group. Interleukin (IL)-4 and -5 produced from OVA-restimulated splenocytes was significantly decreased, and anti-CD3ε/CD28 antibody tre...
A new myxosporean species Ellipsomyxa gobii gen. et sp. n. is described from the common goby Pomatoschistus microps (Krøyer) (Perciformes, Gobiidae). Plasmodia with long branched pseudopodia in the gallbladder develop to subspherical bisporous plasmodia. The myxospores were found in the gallbladder, and the hepatic and bile ducts. The new genus is characterised by the morphology of the myxospor...
The fungus Agaricus brasiliensis is a Basidiomycete studied because of its immunomodulation and/or antitumor substances. The objective of this study was to verify the Agaricus brasiliensis antineoplasic activity in vivo on different basidiocarp maturation phases on Sarcoma 180 cells implanted in mice. Sarcoma cells were implanted in mice and after seven days mice were divided in three groups. T...
Comparative linkage mapping can rapidly facilitate the transfer of genetic information from model species to orphan species. This macrosynteny analysis approach has been extensively used in plant species, but few example are available in fungi, and even fewer in mushroom crop species. Among the latter, the Agaricus genus comprises the most cultivable or potentially cultivable species. Agaricus ...
Agaricus blazei Murill (AbM) is an edible, medicinal mushroom of Brazilian origin. It is used traditionally against a range of diseases, including cancer and chronic hepatitis, and has been cultivated commercially for the health food market. AbM has recently been shown to have strong immunomodulating properties, which has led to increasing scientific interest. In this article, we review current...
Comparisons of the qualitative volatile production patterns between seven species of Agaricus, and between two of Volvariella and Pleurotus and one Coprinus species when grown at 25 degrees C on agar media for 14 d were made. There was good reproducibility between the volatile production patterns of the same species using an electronic nose unit with a 14 conducting sensor polymer array. Princi...
Extracts from compost infested with Caenorhabditis elegans suppressed mycelial growth of Agaricus brunnescens. An extract from uninfested compost also inhibited mycelial growth but to a lesser degree. The critical role of compost bacteria and/or other compost micro-organisms is implicated by these results.

Agaricus bisporus is one of the most consumed culinary mushrooms in the world. The white type of Agaricus bisporus has been demonstrated with various bioactivities beneficial to human health. However, little was known about its brown type. In this study, the anti-cancer and immunoregulatory potential of Agaricus bisporus (brown) polysaccharide were investigated in vitro and in vivo. In vitro, t...
