In the study were presented data for comparison of antibacterial activities between long time stored acacia (Robinia pseudoacacia L.), multifloral and oak (Quercus spp.) honeydew honeys towards Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 9144). The results showed that the antibacterial activity of oak honeydew and multifloral honeys was much higher in comparison with acacia honeys with the lowest antibacterial...

For years, people have been overusing antibacterial products, resulting in bacteria that are insusceptible to antibacterial products. This is due to misconceptions that surround antibacterial products. Studies have shown that many people aren’t aware of the dangers of antibacterial products, and expect a prescription of antibiotics upon doctor visits even in cases where antibiotics do not help....

Quinolone resistance in clinical isolates of Campylobacter jejuni in Sweden increased more than 20-fold at the beginning of the 1990s. Resistance to 125 microgram of ciprofloxacin per ml in clinical isolates was associated with chromosomal mutations in C. jejuni leading to a Thr-86-Ile substitution in the gyrA product and a Arg-139-Gln substitution in the parC product.

The study was to investigate the Antibacterial Activity of Some Medicinal Plants used against UTI Causing Pathogens. Bacteria were isolated from the UTI infected patients and characterized by using microscopic, staining, morphological and biochemical methods. The Ethanolic Extracts from plants were prepared and then used to check their antibacterial activity against the bacteria isolated from U...

The plasmid-encoded quinolone resistance gene qnrS1 was recently found to be commonly associated with ciprofloxacin resistance in Nigeria. We mapped the qnrS1 gene from an Escherichia coli isolate obtained in Nigeria to a 43.5 Kb IncX2 plasmid. The plasmid, pEBG1, was sufficient to confer ciprofloxacin non-susceptibility, as well as tetracycline and trimethoprim resistance, on E. coli K-12. Del...

BACKGROUND Antibacterial drug use is a major risk factor for bacterial resistance, but little is known about antibacterial use in US hospitals. The objectives of this study were to characterize trends in antibacterial use in a sample of US hospitals and to identify predictors of use. METHODS We measured systemic antibacterial use from validated claims data at 22 university teaching hospitals ...

This study was carried out to evaluate the antibacterial activity of aqueous and organic extracts of Thymus capitatus L. (Lamiaceae) leaves and stems. Dried ground powder leaves and stems were extracted with water (aqueous extracts), ethanol, dichloromethane and hexane (Soxhlet extracts). The antibacterial activity of these extracts was evaluated against bacteria using disc diffusion method. Th...

Purified isothiocyanates from cruciferous plants (Brassicacea, Syn. Cruciferae) plants were evaluated against 15 isolates of methicillin-resistant S. aureus isolated from diabetic foot-ulcer patients aiming the study of the potential usage of allyl-isothiocyanate, benzyl-isothiocyanate and 2-phenylethyl-isothiocyanate against this important bacteria. Disc diffusion and minimum inhibitory concen...
