Calcineurin inhibitors may augment the effects of antifungal drugs in microbiological assays. We examined this interaction in a microbiological assay for posaconazole. No effect was observed. However, concurrent or recently discontinued treatment with other antifungal drugs caused false-positive results, emphasizing a limitation of microbiological assays for antifungal drug level measurement.
Background& Objective: Candidal vulvovaginitis occurs in female genital by the over growth of candida especially candida albicans. This infection may be resistant to therapy and occasionally becomes chronic. In some patients, this form of infection is recurrent. Moreover, discovering new antifungal drugs and the use of these drugs in new methods encourage mycologists to use these techniq...
In this study, we investigated the antifungal effects of silver nanoparticles (Ag-Nps) on Candida albicans (ATCC 5027), Saccharomyces cerevisiae (ATCC 5027). Investigating method by using Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) technique, some of drugs including Amphotericin B, Fluconazole and synthesized Ag-Nps have been obtained on the fungi and the changes on membrane reactions of yeasts have...
Background and Aims: Candida Albicance is one of the most common oral opportunistic infection. Antifungal drugs have several side effects as well as bad taste. Licorice is one of the oldest drugs in Iranian traditional medicine. It has antibacterial and antiviral effects however, there are a few studies about its antifungal. Therefore, this study was designed for in vitro evaluation of the anti...
OBJECTIVES To monitor the release of the antifungal drugs Fluconazole, Chlorhexidine and a combination of the two from an auto-polymerized poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) denture base resin; and to investigate the effect of the released drugs upon the growth of Candida albicans. METHODS A high performance liquid chromatography-Ultra violet (HPLC-UV) method was used in the analysis of the re...
Candida species are the cause of 60% of all mycoses in immunosuppressed individuals, leading to ∼150,000 deaths annually due to systemic infections, whereas the current antifungal therapies either have toxic side effects or are insufficiently efficient. We performed a screening of two compound libraries, the Enzo and the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) oncology collection librar...
The procedures evolved in the author's laboratory over the past 20 years for the microbiological assessment of antifungal drugs are described; methods are detailed for the estimation of the sensitivity of pathogenic fungi to therapeutic agents and for the assay of those agents in body fluids. The preparation and maintenance of stock reference solutions of the drugs, the culture media used, and ...
