Thymoquinone (TQ) is the main active ingredient extracted from the black seed (Nigella sativa L.) Previous work on the antigenotoxic properties of TQ in animal cell systems has yielded inconsistent results. We investigated the antigenotoxic effect of different concentrations of TQ in human lymphocyte cultures challenged with two standard mutagens: benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P; 16 μM), and mitomycin C ...

Higher plants, an important material for genetic tests to monitor various pollutant present in the environment. Among the plant species, Alium cepa has been used to evaluate chromosome aberrations and disturbances in the mitotic cycle. Now days, it has been used to assess a great number of genotoxic/antigenotoxic agents, which contributes to its increasing application in environmental monitorin...

The herbicide cilluron containing cyhalofop-butyl (10%) is an active ingredient. Cyhalofop-butyl has low oral, dermal and inhalation toxicity. In the present study the antigenotoxic effects of Brassica oleracea L. var. italica was evaluated using Allium cepa root chromosomal aberration assay against ciluron. Three types of treatments were given to roots in pre-treatment roots were first treated...

Heat treatment of persimmon peel (PP) increased the antioxidative activity of the 70% ethanolic extract (EE) and water extract (WE) from PP. EE and WE both prevented H2O2-induced DNA damage to human peripheral lymphocytes. The antioxidative and antigenotoxic activities of the PP extracts were significantly affected by heating.

BACKGROUND In recent years, there has been considerable research on recycling of agroindustrial waste for production of bioactive compounds. The food processing industry produces large amounts of citrus peels that may be an inexpensive source of useful agents. OBJECTIVE The present work aimed to explore the phytochemical content, antioxidant, anticancer, antiproliferation, and antigenotxic ac...

BACKGROUND "Horchata" is an herbal mixture infusion consumed in Southern Ecuador; 66% of its plants are anti-inflammatory medicinal plant, and 51% are analgesics. Anti-inflammatory substances can prevent carcinogenesis mediated by cytotoxic effects and can prevent DNA damage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cytotoxicity and apoptotic/antigenotoxic effects of horchata as well as its me...

Arrabidaea chica Verlot (Bignoniaceae) is an important folk medicine plant native to the Amazon region and used to treat anemia, hemorrhage, inflammation, intestinal colic, hepatitis, and skin affections. Although studies showed its therapeutic properties, little knowledge regarding genotoxic properties of this plant is available. The aim of this study was to determine the potential mutagenic a...

The control of genotoxic agents mass release, which can adversely affect the ecosystem stability and human health is of the greatest importance. Therefore, it is necessary to seriously elaborate the strategy of genotoxic monitoring and relevant legislation. Additional approach is the study and dietary use of antigenotoxic plant substances for prevention of mutationrelated diseases.

Chalcones present several biological activities and sulfonamide chalcone derivatives have shown important biological applications, including antitumor activity. In this study, genotoxic, cytotoxic, antigenotoxic, and anticytotoxic activities of the sulfonamide chalcone N-{4-[3-(4-nitrophenyl)prop-2-enoyl]phenyl} benzenesulfonamide (CPN) were assessed using the Salmonella typhimurium reverse mut...
