Sm1.8Ce0.2CuO4–xCe0.9Gd0.1O1.95 (SCC–xCGO, x = 0–12 vol.%) composite cathodes supported on Ce0.9Gd0.1O1.95 (CGO) electrolyte are studied for applications in IT-SOFCs. Results show that Sm1.8Ce0.2CuO4 material is chemically compatible with Ce0.9Gd0.1O1.95 at 1000 °C. The composite electrode exhibits optimum microstructure and forms good contact with the electrolyte after sintering at 1000 °C for...

A homogeneous set of new measurements of nearly all (995 out of 1007) objects from the Strasbourg-ESO Catalogue of Galactic Planetary Nebulae or in the first supplement of this catalogue in the area covered by the DENIS survey (δ < +2) is given here. A list of 24 new and 27 wrong crossidentifications with sources in the IRAS PSC catalogue and some confusion in the literature is listed as well.

We describe the current plans for a spectroscopic survey of millions of stars in the Milky Way galaxy using the Guo Shou Jing Telescope (GSJT, formerly the Large Area Multi-Object Spectroscopic Telescope LAMOST). The survey will obtain spectra for 2.5 million stars brighter than r < 19 during dark/grey time, and 5 million stars brighter than r < 17 or J < 16 on nights that are moonlit or have l...

2004, George Nemhauser attended a conference on combinatorial optimization held in Santiago, Chile (LACGA’04), which was organized by the Center for Operations Management (CGO) at the University of Chile’s Department of Industrial Engineering. After giving a talk on game scheduling for Major League Baseball (MLB), the Georgia Tech engineering professor granted an interview to a prominent local ...

In this paper the authors present PSO-CGO, a novel particle swarm algorithm for cluster geometry optimization. The proposed approach combines a steady-state strategy to update solutions with a structural distance measure that helps to maintain population diversity. Also, it adopts a novel rule to update particles, which applies velocity only to a subset of the variables and is therefore able to...

Present MOOC and SPOC platforms do not provide teachers with precise metrics that represent the effectiveness of students with educational resources and activities. This work proposes and illustrates the application of the Precise Effectiveness Strategy (PES). PES is a generic methodology for defining precise metrics that enable calculation of the effectiveness of students when interacting with...

This paper presents results of applying a machine learning technique, the Support Vector Machine (SVM), to the astronomical problem of matching the Infra-Red Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) and Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) object catalogues. In this study, the IRAS catalogue has much larger positional uncertainties than those of the SDSS. A model was constructed by applying the supervised lear...
