HLA-A,B,C and HLA-D molecules present antigenic peptides to the antigen-specific receptor of autologous T-lymphocytes. T-cell-mediated host-versus-tumor response might therefore depend on the presence of these molecules on tumor cells, although the absence of HLA-A,B,C determinants on a cell has been shown to increase its susceptibility to lysis by natural killer cells. To investigate whether t...

Beta2 microglobulin is one of the domains of the histocompatibility class I human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antigen. In hepatitis infection the presentation of the viral antigen on the hepatocyte in the presence of class I HLA antigens plays a significant role in the elimination of the virus. The aim of the study was to estimate the serum beta2 microglobulin levels in cases of chronic hepatitis B...

BACKGROUND Serum levels of melanoma markers may have a role in monitoring disease evolution in metastatic melanoma. PATIENTS AND METHODS Serial measurements of melanoma inhibiting activity protein (MIA), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), S-100 and beta2-microglubulin were obtained from 42 metastatic melanoma patients during their biochemotherapy treatment. RESULTS High pre-treatment serum levels...

beta 2-Microglobulin (beta 2-m) is a low-molecular-weight protein which has been suggested to play an important role in immune functions. The aim of this study was to determine beta 2-m levels in serum and saliva from patients with juvenile periodontitis (JP) and to compare them with those of periodontally healthy subjects. The study was performed on 11 patients with JP and 10 periodontally hea...

Mean serum beta-2 microglobulin levels among healthy human immunodeficiency virus-seronegative and asymptomatic and symptomatic human immunodeficiency virus-seropositive Ugandans were found to be 2.35, 3.75, and 5.06 mg/liter, respectively (P < 0.001). The upper limit of the normal range (3.5 mg/liter) is higher in this African population than that reported elsewhere.

beta(2)-microglobulin was detected on the cell surface and in the medium of human lymphoid cells established in long-term culture. The secretion of beta(2)-microglobulin was relatively uniform when different cell lines were compared, whereas IgG production varied widely. kappa- and micro-membrane antigens were modulated by specific antibody; beta(2)-microglobulin was not modulated. Anti-kappa a...
