background the occult hepatitis b infection (obi) is defined as the presence of hepatitis b virus (hbv) dna in the sera or in the liver biopsy and the absence of hepatitis b surface antigen (hbsag) by serological test. objectives the current study aimed to evaluate the occult hbv infection by polymerase chain reaction (pcr) and determine hbv genotyping among the patients with abnormal alanine t...

Antibody-mediated C-dependent lysis of cell lines infected with herpes simplex type 1 virus, influenza A degrees virus, measles virus, and mumps virus occurred by the alternative C pathway with the participation of IgG antibodies. Lysis occurred only with immune human sera, Mg++ EGTA immune sera, and immune sera depleted of C4 or treated with Fab anti-C4. Lysis did not occur with nonimmune sera...

A quantitation procedure for hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg) in serum without prior removal of antibodies to HBcAg is described. The virus nucleoprotein core was released from hepatitis B virus (HBV) particles by treatment with Nonidet P-40 detergent and allowed to form immune complexes with homologous antibodies to HBcAg present in the sera of HBV-infected individuals. After precipitation wit...

Neutralization of Chlamydia trachomatis was assayed by the decrease in inclusion-forming units in baby hamster kidney cells grown in culture. Five percent fresh guinea pig sera increased neutralization titers of rabbit antisera 100- to 1,000-fold but had no effect when normal rabbit sera were tested. Neutralization of a type A or B trachoma isolate was strain specific. Neutralization by human e...

The performance of Western blots (immunoblots) prepared with eight strains of Borrelia burgdorferi representing B. burgdorferi sensu stricto, B. garinii, and B. afzelii genospecies was tested with a panel of sera with various clinical presentations collected from eight geographic regions. European sera were generally more reactive to blots prepared with B. garinii or B. afzelii strain antigens,...

Anti-A and anti-B blood group antibodies in the cynomolgus monkey sera were serologically characterized. 2-Mercaptoethanol (2-ME) inactivated these antibodies of both group-A and group-B sera. Furthermore, soluble human ABH substances neutralized these antibody activities. However, these activities were not inhibited by anti-human IgG or IgA serum but by anti-human IgM serum. By gel filtration ...

early diagnosis of human hydatid disease by detecting the specific antibodies in patients’ sera is considered as an important step in treatment of infection. but the diagnostic efficiencies of assays greatly depend on the characteristics of antigen that is used and various conditions in performance. in present study, we tried to standardize an indirect haemagglutination test, using antigen b fo...

A total of 250 hepatitis B surface antigen positive sera were screened for antibody to hepatitis B surface antigen. It was found that seven (3%) sera showed concurrently circulating surface antigen and surface antibody to hepatitis B virus. The level of antibody to surface antigen was not affected by HBeAg and most of the cases were found in chronic hepatitis B carriers.

Circulating antibodies that could be responsible for the suppressor thymus-derived (T)-cell dysfunction in active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) were investigated. Sera from 14 active and inactive SLE patients were compared with a pool of 22 normal sera. All sera were adsorbed with a pool of normal platelets to exclude antihistocompatibility leukocyte antigen antibodies; with AB erythrocyte...

I N A PREVIOUS PAPER,’ the author reported n a blood sample ( Co) found to be AB, but containing anti-B in the serum. Tile A antigen in tile blood cells was normal when assessed on tile basis of tile reaction of the blood cells ill anti-A sera, whereas tile B cilaracter was weaker than normal and atypical. A study of the family failed to reveal whether tile atypical, weak B-like character was i...
