We consider decays of the lowest-lying positive parity (56-plet) and negative parity (70-plet) excited baryons. For the 70-plet, we include both single-quark and two-quark decay operators, and find, somewhat mysteriously, that the twoquark operators are not phenomenologically important. Studies of decays 70 → ∆+γ may strengthen or vitiate this observation. For the 56-plet decays, now using only...
In a one-pion plus one-kaon exchange model, we calculate the kaon production cross sections in nucleon-nucleon, nucleon-delta and delta-delta interactions. We find that this model describes reasonably well the experimental data on kaon production in the proton-proton interaction. Near the kaon production threshold, the cross section obtained from this model is smaller than that from the linear ...
Kaon production cross sections in nucleon-nucleon, nucleon-delta and delta-delta interactions are studied in a boson exchange model. For the latter two interactions, the exchanged pion can be on-mass shell, only contributions due to a virtual pion are included via the Peierls method by taking into account the finite delta width. With these cross sections and also those for pion-baryon interacti...
The amount of proton stopping in central P b + P b collisions from 20 – 160 A·GeV as well as hyperon and antihyperon rapidity distributions are calculated within the UrQMD model in comparison to experimental data at 40, 80 and 160 A·GeV taken recently from the NA49 collaboration. Furthermore , the amount of baryon stopping at 160 A·GeV for P b + P b collisions is studied as a function of centra...
A novel non-perturbative gluon junction mechanism is introduced within the HIJING/B nuclear collision event generator to calculate baryon number transport and hyperon production in pA and AA collisions. This gluonic mechanism can account for the observed large mid-rapidity valence baryon yield in Pb + Pb at 160 AGeV and predicts high initial baryon densities at RHIC. However, the highly enhance...
The baryon junction exchange mechanism recently proposed to explain valence baryon number transport in nuclear collisions is extended to study midrapidity anti-hyperon production. Baryon junction-antijunction (JJ̄) loops are shown to enhance Λ̄, Ξ̄, Ω̄ as well as lead to long range rapidity correlations. Results are compared to recent WA97 PbPb → Y Ȳ X data. 25.75.-q,24.10.Lx Typeset using REVTEX
More than half of the measured baryons in e+e− annihilation are directly produced, and even if they are the decay products of primary baryons, unlike most of mesons, they almost conserve the rapidity and the direction of their parents. Hence, the properties of the baryon production especially the correlation between baryon(B) and its antibaryon(B) can provide a better probe of the hadronization...
In the following work we consider the possibility of explaining the observed baryon number asymmetry in the universe from simple baryon number violating modifications, involving massive scalar bosons, to the Standard Model. In these cases baryon number violation is mediated through a combination of Yukawa and scalar self-coupling interactions. Starting with a previously compiled catalogue of ba...
We discuss baryon production in the nucleon fragmentation region in deep inelastic scattering. The dependence of the nucleon spectra on Bjorken-x is evaluated within the parton model and in QCD, and ways to look for the break-down of the DGLAP approximation via baryon production are suggested. We argue also that the leading neutron production in these small x processes is rather insensitive to ...
