Biocompatible and robust gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were prepared via a simple synthetic strategy employing dextran as a reducing agent and surface coating material. Cross-linking and amination of the surface-coated dextran significantly improved the colloidal stability of AuNPs and rendered the nanoparticles more amenable to bioconjugation.

Photothermal therapy as a physical therapeutic approach has greatly attracted research interest due to its negligible systemic effects. Among the various photothermal agents, CuS nanoparticles have been widely used due to their easy preparation, low cost, high stability and strong absorption in the NIR region. However, the ambiguous biotoxicity of CuS nanoparticles limited their bio-application...

A new synthetic route to mechanochemically produce silicon nanoparticles modified with biocompatible and chromophoric molecular compounds using the Williamson ether synthesis is described. This reaction allows a direct grafting of organic compounds such as phenol, hydroquinone and tetraethylene glycol to the silicon nanoparticle surface in an efficient fashion. Specifically, the formation of (p...

Polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) based nanoparticles are biocompatible and biodegradable and therefore have been extensively investigated as therapeutic carriers. Here, we engineered diagnostically active PLGA nanoparticles that incorporate high payloads of nanocrystals into their core for tunable bioimaging features. We accomplished this through esterification reactions of PLGA to generate p...

manufacturing new hepatitis b virus vaccines, specifically by the use of nanoparticles, is of high global interest. in this paper, a new biocompatible and biodegradable structure of nano-sized hepatitis b virus’ surface antigen (hbsag) was generated by conjugation with dendrimers, a low cost biodegradable and biocompatible polymer. the physicochemical properties of the conjugate were characteri...

We describe for the first time the synthesis of biocompatible TiO2 nanoparticles containing a functional NH2 group which are easily dispersible in water. The synthesis of water dispersible TiO2 nanoparticles coated with mercaptosuccinic acid is also reported. We show that it is possible to exchange the stearic acid from pre-synthesised fatty acid-coated anatase 5-nm nanoparticles with a range o...

Theranostic nanoparticles hold the potential to revolutionize disease management. Over the last decade, there has been growing interest in the engineering of various kinds of theranostic nanoparticles for simultaneous cancer imaging and therapy in small animals. Efficient targeting of theranostic nanoparticles to the tumor site is critical for both diagnosis and therapy. However, difficulties s...

Water-soluble and biocompatible D-glucuronic acid coated Na2WO4 and BaCO3 nanoparticles were synthesized for the first time to be used as x-ray computed tomography (CT) contrast agents. Their average particle diameters were 3.2 ± 0.1 and 2.8 ± 0.1 nm for D-glucuronic acid coated Na2WO4 and BaCO3 nanoparticles, respectively. All the nanoparticles exhibited a strong x-ray attenuation. In vivo CT ...
