Carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacilli resulting from β-lactamases have been reported to be an important cause of nosocomial infections and are a critical therapeutic problem worldwide. This study aimed to describe the prevalence of imipenem-resistant Gram-negative bacilli isolates and detection of bla VIM, bla TEM, bla SHV, bla CTX-M-1, and bla CTX-M-9 genes in these clinical isolates in E...

The worldwide dissemination of extended-spectrum-β-lactamase (ESBL)- and carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae is a major concern in both hospital and community settings. Rapid identification of these resistant pathogens and the genetic determinants they possess is needed to assist in clinical practice and epidemiological studies. A collection of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Kl...

aim : the aims of this study were to determine the phylogenetic groups and investigate phenotypic and genotypic of esbl and mbl-producing e . coli isolates from patients with diarrhea in kerman, southeast of iran. background : escherichia coli is detected as a significant cause of sporadic and outbreaks of diarrhea. the emergence of extended-spectrum ?-lactamases (esbls) and metallo-?-lactamas...

Introduction: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the leading causes of nosocomial infections, and antibiotic resistance of this pathogen is an important concern in treating such infections. The current work was conducted to investigate the prevalence of bla-IMP, and bla-VIM metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) among clinical and environmental P. aeruginosa isolates obtained from ICUs of different hospita...

This study presents updates on molecular epidemiology of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) in clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae from Srinagarind Hospital, Khon Kaen University, Thailand. All isolates were screened for the presence of ESBL genes, bla(TEM), bla(SHV), bla(VEB) and bla(CTX-M), using PCR followed by nucleotide sequence determination. The results revealed that beta-lact...

Acinetobacter baumannii is an important nosocomial pathogen occurring particularly in intensive care (ICU) as well as burn therapy units (BTU). A. baumannii strains have emerged as resistant to almost all antimicrobial agents, including carbapenems. b-lactamase-mediated resistance is the most common mechanism for carbapenem resistance in this species. Carbapenem-hydrolysing class D b-lactamases...

background and objectives: klebsiella pneumoniae , one of the important causes of nosocomial infections, is the most common extended spectrum β-lactamases (esbls) producing organism. esbls are defined as the enzymes capable of hydrolyzing oxyimino-cephalosporins, monobactams and carbapenems. the aims of this study were to identify esbl-producing k. pneumoniae isolates and detect their antibioti...

We evaluated the presence of various Beta-lactamase genes within the bacteriophages in sewage. Results showed the occurrence of phage particles carrying sequences of bla(OXA-2), bla(PSE-1) or bla(PSE-4) and bla(PSE)-type genes. Phages may contribute to the spread of some Beta-lactamase genes.

This study was conducted to reveal the phylogenetic background, to detect the genes encoding TEM, SHV and CTX-M-15 extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL), and to analyze their distribution in phylo-groups of 150 Escherichia coli isolates from broiler chickens in Ahvaz (Southwest of Iran). Seventy- five cloacal swabs from healthy birds (fecal isolates), and 75 heart blood samples from bi...

OBJECTIVES To gain insights into ampC transmission between bacterial strains. METHODS We examined the genetic context of 117 acquired ampC genes from 27119 Enterobacteriaceae collected between 1999 and 2007. Plasmid analysis was carried out by PCR-based replicon or relaxase typing, S1-PFGE and Southern hybridization. I-CeuI/PFGE was used for isolates not characterized by plasmid analysis. PCR...
