In this work, the asymptotic behavior of solutions to a coupled hyperbolic/parabolic{like system is investigated. It is shown that with both components of the equation being subjected to nonlinear damping (boundary damping for the wave component, interior for the beam), a global uniform stability is attained for all (weak) solutions.
We study the stabilization problem by interior (weak/strong) damping of the wave equation with boundary or internal time–varying delay feedback in a bounded and smooth domain Ω ⊂ IR. By introducing suitable Lyapunov functionals exponential stability estimates are obtained if the delay effect is appropriately compensated by the internal damping. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 35L05, 93D15
iii Abstract The goal of this research is to provide a framework for vibro-acoustical analysis and design of a multiple-layer constrained damping structure. The existing research on damping and viscoelastic damping mechanism is limited to the following four mainstream approaches: modeling techniques of damping treatments/materials; control through the electrical-mechanical effect using the piez...
In this article we focus on the life span of solutions to the following system of nonlinear wave equations: utt −∆u + g1(ut) = f1(u, v) vtt −∆v + g2(vt) = f2(u, v) in a bounded domain Ω ⊂ R with Robin and Dirichlét boundary conditions on u and v, respectively. The nonlinearities f1(u, v) and f2(u, v) represent strong sources of supercritical order, while g1(ut) and g2(vt) represent interior dam...
In this paper we focus on the initial-boundary value problem of the 2-D isentropic Euler equations with damping. We prove the global-intime existence of classical solution to the initial-boundary value problem by the method of energy estimates. keywords: Euler equation; initial-boundary value problem; well-posedness. In this paper, we present a numerical model for laser-plasma interaction involving Raman instability and Landau damping. This model exhibits three main difficulties. The first one is the coupling of PDE’s posed both in Fourier space and in physical space. The second one is a three wave resonance condition that has to be verified. The third one is the boundary conditions. We overcome these diffi...
Timoshenko beam equations with external damping and internal damping terms and forcing terms are investigated, and boundary conditions (end conditions) to be considered are hinged ends (pinned ends), hinged-sliding ends, and sliding ends. Unboundedness of solutions of boundary value problems for Timoshenko beam equations is studied, and it is shown that the magnitude of the displacement of the ...
utt −Δu+ g1(ut) = f1(u, v), vtt −Δv + g2(vt) = f2(u, v) in a bounded domain Ω ⊂ Rn with Robin and Dirichlét boundary conditions on u and v respectively. The nonlinearities f1(u, v) and f2(u, v) have supercritical exponents representing strong sources, while g1(ut) and g2(vt) act as damping. In addition, the boundary condition also contains a nonlinear source and a damping term. By employing non...
In this paper we consider a plate equation with internal feedback and viscoelastic damping localized on a part of the boundary. Without imposing restrictive assumptions on the time-dependent frictional damping, we establish an explicit and general decay rate result that allows a wider class of relaxation functions and generalizes previous results existing in the literature.
A method is proposed in order to calculate the damping effects of viscous fluids in liquid storage tanks subjected to earthquakes. The potential equation of an ideal fluid can satisfy only the boundary conditions normal to the surface of the liquid. To satisfy also the tangential interaction conditions between liquid and tank wall and tank bottom, the potential flow is superimposed by a one-dim...
