The broadening of the three hyperfine EPR nitroxide lines in oxygen supersaturated solutions was examined. The solutions were supersaturated with oxygen either by thermal decomposition of 1,4-peroxy-1,4-dimethylnaphthalene or by pressurizing molecular oxygen above the sample solution. The linear relationship between the Lorentzian component of the line width and the O(2) concentration was prove...
Introduction: Impact vaporization process may have played an important role in the formation and evolution of the atmospheres and oceans of planets e.g.[1,2] and have had significant consequences to planets’ surface environment e.g.[3,4]. Although a mechanical aspect of this process has been investigated extensively, its chemical aspect has not been studied to a great depth. One of the reasons ...
Spectral linewidth broadening in Rydberg gases, a phenomenon previously attributed to the many-body effect, was observed experimentally almost a decade ago. The observed linewidth was typically 80–100 times larger than the average interaction strength predicted from a binary interaction. The interpretation of such a phenomenon is usually based on the so-called diffusion model, where the linewid...
We propose an adaptive scheme of broadening the discrete spectral data from numerical renormalization group (NRG) calculations to improve the resolution of dynamical properties at finite energies. While the conventional scheme overbroadens narrow features at large frequency by broadening discrete weights with constant width in log-frequency, our scheme broadens each discrete contribution indivi...
The 2p(5)3d(1) excited state of the Ti(4+) ion in SrTiO(3) couples to e(g) distortions of the local oxygen cage, leading to a Jahn-Teller vibronic broadening of the excited states. We quantify this contribution to the broadening of the spectral features of the Ti L edge of SrTiO(3) by solving a model Hamiltonian, taking parameters for the Hamiltonian from previous first-principles calculations....
We describe the generation of subpicosecond electrical pulses by optical rectification of ultrashort optical pulses. The electrical pulses are generated by the second-order nonlinear response of a LiTaO(3) crystal bonded to a coplanar transmission line. A bipolar temporal waveform with a width of 875 fs was measured after a propagation distance of 175mum . This pulse width was limited by the re...
We measure the quality factor Q of electrically driven few-layer graphene drumhead resonators, providing an experimental demonstration that Q ∼ 1/T, where T is the temperature. We develop a model that includes intermodal coupling and tensioned graphene resonators. Because the resonators are atomically thin, out-of-plane fluctuations are large. As a result, Q is mainly determined by stochastic f...
We numerically investigate supercontinuum generation using continuous-wave pumping. It is found that energy transfer during collision of solitons plays an important role. The relative influence of Raman gain on spectral broadening is shown to depend on the width of the calculation time window. Our results indicate that increasing the spectral linewidth of the pump can decrease the supercontinuu...
We calculated the mass and width of the d ′ resonance inside nuclei within a nucleon-∆ model by including the self-energy of the ∆ in the N ∆ propagator. We found that in the nuclear medium the width of the d ′ is increased by one order of magnitude while its mass changes only by a few MeV. This broadening of the width of the d ′ resonance embedded in nuclei is consistent with the experimental ...
