hydrogenation of oils might be considered as the largest reaction in the edible oil industry. the reaction consists of the addition of hydrogen at the double bounds of fatty acids. although for some reasons this might be considered a desirable reaction but for some others it might create problems in the food and nutrition chain circle due to the formation of saturated and trans fatty acids. soy...

Ocimum sanctum fixed oil showed good antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus pumilus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, where S. aureus was the most sensitive organism. Sesame and soyabean oils also showed moderate activity against S. aureus. Higher content of linolenic acid in O. sanctum fixed oil could contribute towards its antibacterial activity. The antibacterial activity c...

Fatty acid butyl esters were synthesized from sunflower oil with 1-butanol using a homogeneous Rhizomucor miehei lipase in a biphasic organic (triglyceride, 1-butanol, hexane)- water (with enzyme) system in a continuous setup consisting of a cascade of a stirred tank reactor and a continuous centrifugal contactor separator (CCCS), the latter being used for integrated reaction and liquid-liquid ...

Many workers believe that the association between serum cholesterol concentration and ischaemic heart disease is one of cause and effect and it is reported that a 10 % decrease in serum cholesterol is associated with a 27 % reduction in the risk of ischaemic heart disease (Law et al. 1994b) achieved after 5 or more years (Law et al. 1994a). The chief dietary determinants of plasma total cholest...

A convenient and practical synthesis of imidazol-1-yl-acetic acid hydrochloride was achieved via N-alkylation of imidazole using tert-butyl chloroacetate followed by a non-aqueous ester cleavage of the resulting imidazol-1-yl-acetic acid tert-butyl ester in the presence of titanium tetrachloride. The synthesized imidazol-1-yl-acetic acid hydrochloride was then utilized to prepare zoledronic acid.

Distribution coefficients of acetic acid between aqueous phase and solvents (water-C6-C10 alcohols, butyl acetate, ether and benzene) were studied. Synergetic effect was obtained for alcohol and ester systems. A slightly positive deviation was obtained for benzene–ester mixtures. The best distribution coefficient was obtained for hexanol-butyl acetate systems. The coefficients of Redlisch-Kiste...

 Biodiesel production from non edible oil through transesterification in batch reactor is highly effective technique for kinetic analysis. Temperature, molar ratio, mixing intensity and catalyst influenced the biodiesel production and kinetic. Alkaline catalysts are more efficient in nature as compare to acid and base catalyst. This paper particularly focuses on the impact of NaOH catalyst o...
