A general discussion on combining statistical hypothesis tests is followed by an application involving point source detection in skymaps. The traditional literature on combining statistical tests has concentrated on a regime in which p-values as large as 0.05 are still of interest, and in which it is dangerous to treat tests as truly independent. But for point source detection, very small p-val...
Given that the terminal condition is of at most linear growth, it is well known that a Cauchy problem admits a unique classical solution when the coefficient multiplying the second derivative is also a function of at most linear growth. In this note, we give a condition on the volatility that is necessary and sufficient for a Cauchy problem to admit a unique solution
The wave functions in the diquark-quark model for baryons are modified to take into account the effect of the different masses of the quarks in diquark formation. A spatial wave function is introduced multiplying each flavour-spin configuration in the quark-diquark model. Futhermore a numerical coefficient is introduced which weighes the contribution of each configuration.
The relationship between clinically scored tremor and electromyographic measurements of tremor amplitude is not clear and few reports have examined correlations between different tremor parameters. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlations between different tremor parameters, clinical tremor scoring, age and disease duration. A total of 525 patients with different types of tremor w...
Normal Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS)-IV performance relative to average normative scores alone can be an oversimplification as this fails to recognize disparate subtest heterogeneity that occurs with increasing age. The purpose of the present study is to characterize the patterns of raw score change and associated variability on WAIS-IV subtests across age groupings. Raw WAIS-IV subt...
The concept of Value at Risk measures the “risk” of a portfolio and is a statement of the following form: With probability q the potential loss will not exceed the Value at Risk figure. It is in widespread use within the banking industry. It is common to derive the Value at Risk figure of d days from the one of one–day by multiplying with √ d. Obviously, this formula is right, if the changes in...
We introduce a new encoding of the face numbers of a simplicial complex, its Stirling polynomial, that has a simple expression obtained by multiplying each face number with an appropriate generalized binomial coefficient. We prove that the face numbers of the barycentric subdivision of the free join of two CW -complexes may be found by multiplying the Stirling polynomials of the barycentric sub...
